go to a butcher the proper place to buy meat.:footie:0

Similar thing with Tesco's Finest 28 day matured steak. Thought I'd treat us to some as it was on special offer. Tough as an old boot and didn't taste of anything. Won't be buying it again!
Morrison's meat seems good these days. They have what appears to be real butchers behind the counter cutting meat, also I think their meat is more locally sourced. I agree though that probably the local independant butcher is best of all.0 -

Morrisons have there own slaughterhouses and have instore butchers , i think they are the best out of all the supermarkets for meat, very similar to the smaller independent butchers in quality0 -
I had some chicken breasts from Sainsbury this week which shrank very noticeably on cooking and dumped a load of water in the pan. I normally shop at local butcher and regret taking advantage of Sainbury convenience.
I paid more too.0 -

I've been telling people this for a while. The range of cuts is far more extensive than any of the other supermarkets round here and I've yet to have a poor quality piece of meat.If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
Another Morrisons meat fan here! Better quality and usually cheaper than the other supermarkets. We've had two beautiful pieces of beef recently - one for roasting and the other slow-cooked - both kept their size and were very tender.0

I stopped using our local slaughterhouse after I had a few pieces of meat that were obviously "off". One pack of fresh cooked chicken stank so much on opening it made OH retch.
If I buy a meat joint now I tend to get a frozen one from Aldi. Its cheap, it cooks beautifully and I'm yet to have a poor piece from there.0 -
butchers are the place to get meat from supermarkets are grocers. Greedy tescos was the first to get rid of butchers and most followed suit to save money. They sell prepacked awful crap. There are no butchers in their butchering away. WHo can you ask if you want some advice and help on meat the till girl?????? What on earth are value sausages whats in them, also who wants insipid bacon thats tasteless and curls up when you cook it, or sausages with artificial skins, supermarkets are generally v expensive on meat too.
Old butchers would turn in their graves if they could see whats happened to the meat trade and how supermarkets have tried to close down small shops who are specialists in their field and can offer service and their skills.
If you want your teeth seen to you go to a dentist, your body a doctor its the same with a butcher he is skilled and knows about meat so you go to him. We are losing the butcher and his skills fast cos of some people who insist in getting everything from a grocers shop.:footie:0 -
