I've just finished mine polly...........if the glue holds that is..........lol
Used your handbag idea (hope you don't mind)
Materials:
Corragated card (rescued from parcel we got few weeks back)
Off cut of pale brown suede material -was shoved in my sewing box
Pair brown shoe laces
Beads, buttons and buckle from my button box
Old key and threepenny pence piece (not real one.......ornamental one from button box)
Stuck corragated card onto card, cut suede material into envelope shape and stuck at the top of the card near the edge. Added to buttons at bottom corners of the suede and in the middle put a piece of the suede turned over to the dark brown leather side and threaded buckle through it. Added key and coin to one of the corner buttons.
Plaited shoe laces together and knotted each end, leaving one end with longer pieces which I added the wooden beads to. I then glued the knotted part of the laces to the top corners of the suede so it resembles a handbag (I hope ........lol) Problems with glue in places so hope it holds. Laces are hanging on with glue dots.
The overall look is supposed to be a courdroy bag with suede flap.
Hope you can imagine that ok. (If the glue doesn't hold I'll have to start again!)Mary

Think I'm going to add a little 'envelope' inside my card, like a little purse -I'll make it out of some brown paper I've got and pop a sort of luggage label greeting inside...........not sure what sort of greeting though..........Mary

jamtart - they are lovely............I buy a lot of paper from our craft shop for my cards but the nearest I've got to any scrapbooking is to decoration the pages that section off my family tree folders.............oh I did do a small scrapbook when my baby grandson was born last year but it wasn't 'scrapbooking' like I've seen on other websites............I'd love to do it properly but am always afraid it will turn out a bit of a mess...............lolMary

I've been card making for a couple of years now and always take photos of my cards, mostly for ideas for new ones. I find it really helpful. I've just discovered paper quilling, which is really easy and looks great. I've been making little butterflies using quilling and then mounting them on watercolour paper, using pastels rubbed in with ear buds into the paper, then punching out a couple of holes and hanging ribbon through, so that the little girls I give them to have a little door/wall hanging to keep. You can also put their name on the bottom with a metallic gel pen.
I have also just bought paper marbling inks and these make great background papers and it's such fun - shame about all the paper drying all over the house! I've used this paper to make iris folding cards too, which look complicated but aren't and are really effective. I order my books from the local library and naughty, naughty photocopy the bits I like to use again as ideas.
I've just ordered some metallic and pearl effect quiling papers from ebay, plus a real quilling tool (up until now have been using cocktail stick) an am going to make some more tomorrow. I should get myself organised and post some of my cards up here too. I also take photos with my digital camera and mount these as birthday cards. Some really simple ones look very effective. I also personalise kid's birthday cards with their favourite character with a speech bubble coming out saying happy birthday ?? - they always go down well! My black and white pictures taken at Yosemite 2 years ago make brilliant photos for male cards - always so difficult.
Pressed flowers are also very effective, which I just press using heavy cook books, no press yet!
Wire and beads is also very effective. I make 3D butterflies using layers of paper and then make the antennae using wire and beads.
Unfortunately my crafting box has been banished to the office upstairs, so I used the make cards sitting in front of the Tv, but now have to come up here, so don't make so many now. I can't be bothered to bring the whole box downstairs!
It's been really interesting reading everyone's tips and seeing ideas. Everyone takes such a different approach. I Used to buy wire embellishments from a lady called 'hearthfire' on ebay and they were beautiful butterflies, dragonflies, hearts and shooting stars, but she seems to have disappeared off the web - a real shame as they were lovely and you could choose your own wire colour and bead colour.
I save all sorts of scraps of paper and card and also make my own coloured paper using watercolour paper and watercolours. I have found Tescos a really good source of craft stuff as well as Wilkinsons.
Keep the good ideas coming!0 -
Here is my card for the recycling card challenge:
The background is wrapping paper, punched holes in the corners, the ribbon is the loops from inside my pink jumper (you know what you hang them up with) the picture is cut out from an old birthday card, stuck on with foam pads and I used my flower punch to make some little flowers to match the bouquet (I was told I was allowed to use my punch)
Where is everyone elses?0 -

kay - some lovely ideas you have there..............too clever for me I think............lol
mumoftwo - lovely card, super colours. Wish I could put photo of mine on -oh if only I had one of those digi cameras........
Afraid you'll have to use imagination and go from my description. I like and I've got it standing up on top of the shelves next to computer...............OH asked me yesterday who it was for and couldn't get to grips with me doing a card for something like this..............lol Then he got all involved and said as it was a 'handbag' card it should be made like a litle gift bag............lol Hadn't thought of that !Mary

Polly has asked me to let you all know she has been delayed with making and posting her card for the challenge, but she is still working on it today!
Please post your pictures of your lovely cards and she will try and get online later on tonight. She is looking forward to seeing them all.
