Did I dream it or is the water industry soon to open up to competition?

If true, Salop, would be, like gas and electric, a billing and marketing exercise.
The pipes would be the same.
Don't know how the leaks would affect profits, if the water industry was privatised. Anglian Water is supposed to be the worst or the second worst in the country, so if they spent loadsa money in mending the leaks, they would have more water to sell wholesale. Perhaps that is what is stopping the deal.0 -
You might not be dreaming:
"Hilary Benn, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs yesterday announced a review of competition in the water industry at the Water UK City Conference."

Don't expect anything soon though. Ofwat want the current amount competition increased, but as can be seen in the link below, the number of very large customers who can change suppliers is pretty small:

Cheaper to give every householder a sterilising kit for the free rain.
Billions have already been given to bring our water quality to EU standards.0
