I got mine for £2 at a car boot sale.
It came from a hospital - who knows how many slices of toast it's made over the years?! They're expensive because they're built to last, unlike most things we buy these days.
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
my dad bought ours years ago for a small fortune - still works perfectly tho!!! lol0

Better hurry - only 2 left at this price!!0

They were doing them for £65 a few weeks ago, I used a £10 code and got it for £55 - half what John Lewis want for it. Excellent piece of kit.0

Be careful though, there are 2 types of dualit toasters, the cheaper design sell in argos for around 39.99,but the original type always sell for arouund 99/125 pounds and 4 slice and more are more expensive.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

I've had a Bosch toaster for about 10 years now - still going strong. I think the Dualit toasters last long because not much can go wrong with them - they don't pop up automatically. It's just an element and a timer.0

OK, let's put this into perspective.
I paid about £40 for a russell hobbs 4 slice toaster about 2.5 years ago. Last week, it broke down.
If I spend another £40 on a replacement and it lasts a similar amount of time, that'll be £80 in 5 years just to toast bread plus the incvonvenience of it not working on a regular basis.
So after five years, I'd end up spending more than £100 on toasters. That's terrible value.
Generally, toasters are not built to last - at least £40 ones ain't. We run holiday cottages and I have had to replace one this year that was less than a year old.
The same goes for other household appliances. I have a Miele washing machine that cost about £600 about three years ago. An equivalent one from Hoover or similar would have been less than half that price. However, I fully expect the Miele one to be around for another 15 years whereas the Hoover it replaced was only 7 years old.
You really do get what you pay for.0 -
Yes you do get what you pay for - but that's not to say that you can't get quality at a reasonable price. IMHO the Dualit toasters are a rip-off.0

i agree with aris 100%
i beleive the kenwood ones which are now in ethel austen for £8 produce even crispy toast, i cant really understand how toast in more expensive ones really differs,
maybe cos ive never really tried them. any way kenwood is just as good for me.!
at the end of the day toast is toast no matter how much the toaster cost.Nice to save.0 -
I bought one of those toasters when they first came out with Tesco over three years ago. I think they've now been re-branded as 'Tesco Value'. I've had no problem with my own and the same with the kettle that I bought around the same time for about £6.00 odds. They may not have the chique or finesse of a Dualit one, but hey - they toast the bread well enough for me to be happy!
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0
