Cost of relocating Virgin Media cable modem within house?

We have been connected to Virgin Media broadband for over 12 months. So far, the service is rather inconsistent with sudden disconnection that would require us to reboot the modem (and the wireless router) every other day or so, but we've put up with it. The problem is the modem is located in a housemate's room and, as this housemate lately has been frequently away from home, we think it would be better to move the modem and the wireless router to the common area where other people may reboot it themselves when disconnection happens.

I am not quite sure if any Virgin Media user is facing this kind of frequent disconnection problem. Is this common or, rather, the problem lies on our hardware?

If the former, we are thinking about asking VM to send someone over to relocate the modem and the router for us. Does anyone know how they would see it for charging purpose?

Many thanks indeed.

Indeed, I moved my Daughters from upstairs bedroom location to downstairs living room, just using satellite cable, it works a treat.

As for Virgin Media, well nuff said.

Many thanks, espresso. Interested in this DIY, could I find how to do this step-by-step online? Indeed, I have the least idea of what VM's linings are like as it's already there when I moved in.

    Cheers,

Measure how long the extension cabled needs to be and order one.

Power down the modem and unplug the NTL/Virgin cable from the modem and connect it to the new extension cable.

Route the new extension cable to the required location and plug the other end of the extension cable into the modem in it's new location.

    Power up the modem.

    Job done.
