Vansboy, I utterly love your house. I think 60s/70s style homes are going to be the N.B.T. with their grand proportions and focus on practicality over decorative aesthetic.

As for my tile suggestion, we're having pebble tiles on our bathroom floor, £50 m2 from fired earth...

NATURALLY Miss P is no mug and procured the self same product from Marble Mosaics in Sussex for £16.66 m2  I think they add an unusual textural quality which gives a real wow factor and can also be used on walls.

    They come in white too...

As for the walls, I challenge anyone to find a more natural-looking porcelain tile than Micron matte from Imola creamics, they look ultra-slick but are more affordable than natural stone. We're going for the 300x600 but they also come in a less imposing 300x300. Definitley worth checking out. We're having the colour in the pic below, but they also come in a gorgeous off white shade (which I prefer but feel I have to concede to Mr.P's choice as I've railroaded him to my way of thinking on every other aspect of the bathroom refurb) These are they although I think this might be the gloss option....

Have your pebble tiles arrived phirefly? I've always been tempted but never bought them off ebay despite looking. I bet the kids would love it in their bathroom.

How much are the porcelain ones? I'm looking at buying a pallet load of travertine this time, as my sister in law is doing a bathroom too.

I was telling H this morning that I want a bath just like the one in your pic as well!

I've got more ideas for the main bathroom than I have for the ensuite, and that's where I'm starting.

    Hiya dooz,

We went to collect the pebble tiles ourselves as they weren't too far from where we were visiting last weekend. They are from the chaps who sell them on ebay. They're perhaps not as precision-honed as the fired earth ones, but I don't think anyone would notice. The Sensible-Susans I have mentioned it to have been unsure, thinking they may be uncomfortable underfoot, but I bet you any money once they're fitted, the compliments will come rolling in.

We're getting the micron tiles from East Midlands Ceramics and they're £28 m2, less 10% with our bathroom fitters trade discount, so not exactly cheap but generally cheaper than linestone/travertine, and I actually prefer them.

I think the bath in that pic is from the Ideal Standard 'white' range, around £333 rrp. We're getting the Libra Quadra (below) which is practically identical to the Ideal Standard bath from an extremely friendly chap at bathrooms at crazy prices in Chorley for £97

our Bathroom Fairy will be waving his magic wand the last week in October (and not a moment too soon) And fear not, by the time I've finished everyone round here will be bored to death of photos...

B&Q will have more than one supplier. We've laid several different types of tile from B&Q over the years and never had an issue.

from a bathroom fitters point of view

  • has anyone laid standard white wall tiles (20x25cm), on their side, like a brick effect? instead of the usual upright way?
