Wanadoo have several offers running at the moment:
1) Sign up in an Orange store and get your first month free.
2) When signing up on Your Plan 120 or above in an Orange store get 12 months of 2mb broadband for £9.99 a month
3) Sign up anywhere and get your first 6 months Wireless and Talk Free (normally £4 a month).

The £20 upgrade fee looks to be Wanadoo's way of queue jumping the BT free upgrade rollout. The actual cost BT charges is about £15 and most ISP's are charging it at cost, but Wanadoo are using the opportunity to make a few quid.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

I had a 512K link until about 4 weeks ago when I called up and said I'd cancel my sub if they didn't upgrade me to 1mb (which they did) free of charge. When the 2mb connection was announced (I got the e-mail yesterday) I e-mailed to tell them I was annoyed that having upgraded recently they hadn't told me of the 2mb change and could they give me a complimentary 2meg upgrade. After a bit of to-ing and froing - I have been a Freeserve/Wanadoo customer since inception and made no bones about telling them this; I also have a tech background so could bat back some of their justification - they did agree to make the upgrade, and it was up and running this morning (it really does smoke, too, especially for streamed video).
If your exchange has already been upgraded, it's a simple cost free operation - the £15 cost only comes in if someone actually has to go to the exchange and fit a card. Before kicking up any sort of fuss though, check at the BT broadband site that you can actually get 2MB (you enter your phone number).0
