Latest TISCALI Scam

I phoned Tiscali to complain about dodgy modem and they offered me a free wireless router to solve problem .As i was saying goodbye the salesman mumbled something about a 12 month contract. When pressed he admitted that my contract could not be altered for 12 months at whichpoint I declined the free offer of a router.Yesterday a free router dropped through myl etter box despite my clear instructions. When I phoned the person in Tiscali HQ could find no record of my changed status.
I now plan to write and request that the router is collected as I do not want to extend my contract. If anyone has any better ideas I would be pleased to hear from them!

Despite my writing I have received neither an acknowledgement nor an explanation.I think they need to employ more people in their customer services. Are they trying to keeep down running costs to boost valuation of possible takeover?

Not for valuation. They've always kept running costs to a minimum so they can offer cheap prices to get people interested.

This is one of the problems i find, people want the cheapest price possible but with providers using wholesalers for their services there comes a margin that they cant drop below. So they offer each service for say £1-2 over the wholesale margin & they then can't afford to establish good customer service behind the broadband service.

Ultimately you get what you pay for with broadband. Want a good service as well as good customer service then expect to pay a good rate for it :)

Wise words indeed...and there's no such thing as a free lunch...or in the case of Redten, a free PC

I've been with Tiscali for about 4 months now, and can't fault them.

I waited a month for mine, didn't arrive despite a couple of goes via the help desk (india). I sent a email to complaints@uk.tiscali.com, they sorted me out quite quickly.
I had at least 3 phone calls to ask if it arrived, so thums up to tiscali this time!!!:T

Well, I've been with them over five years and have only had two problems in that time. The first, very early on, was an inability to upload files to my webspace. Unbelievably I spent half an hour explaining the difference between uploading and downloading to the Indian call centre bods, before they even began to look into the problem, and then had to reply to some stupid emails whic suggested that they hadn't even read what I had written.

The most recent problem was when my Internet speed dropped to a fraction of what it should be. I braced myself for a long, tedious call and was amazed when it was fixed within a minute or two!

So, overall Tiscali haven't been too bad for me... At least I only have to give a months' notice now, so if anything goes seriously wrong I can jump ship!

You're lucky! I had months of tears, tantrums and lots of tea :( (and a huge phone bill for phoning them all the time!!)
