Wanting to buy a pet rabbit but contract says NO pETS?

Im wanting to buy a pet rabbit for my 2 year old daughter. Shes bunny mad and goes crazy when near my friends rabbits.

Anyways in our contract (we private rent) its says no pets but the rabbit will be outside most of the time.

Do you think we could get one?

Anyone else got pets but not supposed to and rents?

I have emailed the letting agent to contact my landlord and ask..I hope they say yes.

Sx

I have a house rabbit, so when you bring yours inside to play, watch him like a hawk! :)

He'll chew through cables, nibble the carpet and furniture, the wallpaper, anything he can reach.

I had him in the previous two flats I lived in when I wasn't supposed to have pets. It's not like he's a big barking dog or a cat who'll spray everywhere. As long as you keep an eye on him to make sure he's not destroying everything it'll be as if he's not there.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

It’s a standard clause in most tenancy agreements. Simply ask for the Landlords permission. Explain it will be kept in the garden I’d be surprised if they had a problem.

I private rent too and my contract also says no pets but I do look after my sisters rabbits whenever she is away as they are hutched outside and don't come indoors. I wouldn't imagine your landlord could have a problem which a rabbit housed outside but wait on the letting agent to find out for sure.

I think they mean cats/dog or other house pets so hopefully you should have a bunny addition to the family soon :)

You’ve done the right thing by contacting the agent/landlord. Most landlords would not withhold permission unreasonably for this type of request but they may ask you for a small additional damage deposit or a signed confirmation that you will make good any damage caused. (They may also say that they can withdraw their consent at a later date if the pet does cause expensive damage that isn’t rectified). Good luck - hope your daughter can have her rabbit.

If you do get a bunny get a female. Male bunnies have musk and they are a bit smelly. Having said that you should get two and a large hutch. Not fair on the bunny to live alone. So two females would be best.

I used to have bunnies when I was pre teens. Lots of them from one night to the next.....

Our contract said no pets, we wanted a dog so asked the landlord, he said fine, provided he does not annoy the neighbours and does not destroy the house.
So we got a rescue dog who was already trained, and does not bark. As the house is a student house and in a pretty rubbish condition, and we have significantly improved it ourselves, I think the landlord was pretty willing to help us as we have been good tennants (OH not a student)

Thanks to everyone who replied to my thread.

Ill wait to hear from leting agents/landlord (will no doubt take months of bugging them for a reply to my email) and hopefully we shall have a couple of female bunnies in our garden very soon:money:
