One grape won't do any damage :)
And neither will the odd raisin. A few years ago on a forum I used to run a regular posters dog managed to break into a cupboard and steal her bags of raisins and currants meant for the christmas cake... The vet sadly didn't understand the toxicity of them to the dog and sent it home. She passed away after a couple of days of extreem pain from kidney or liver failure... I forget which :( To say her owner was distraught was an understatement and the vet was of no help at all!
If in doubt speak to your vet - they should be able to get you a list of "do's and don'ts" of human food for dogs :)

O flippin' heck, I give him a whole apple to play with (it lasts minutes - he rolls it up the hall once, down the hall once and then devours it pips and all).

According to that list apple pips contain cyanide or they can get stuck in the gut and kill within 24 hours.
  • my 2 jack russells have apples, milk and raw eggs ! and an odd cup of tea now and again! hmmmmmm is this an over anxious website making people worry?

my dog has a milky cup of tea with his breakfast every morning and hes a little jack russell and he seems fine to me.

Even the vet gave me medical advice when he was ill at winter to give him warmed milk or milky tea to help keep his core temperature up because he lsot so much weight - crumbs.

Call me an old boring head, but why exactly do people feel the need to give their pets human food?!

My dog and cat only ever get their own food and nothing else, okay so the dog has a bit of a thing for ice cubes, but that's water, she's allowed that!

I was in the vet yesterday and there was a poster up going on about obese pets. It said 2 crisps to a cat or 1 plain biscuit to a dog was the equivalent of a hamburger to a human. And a small glass of milk was the equivalent of 6 hamburgers to a human!!

If you feed your pets your food, it only teaches them to beg!

EDIT: I have edited to say, of course when they have dicky tummies, boiled rice and chicken are what the vet has recommended to me and I would go with this.

Yes i think that your probably right. My vet, well my dog's vet, said that raw eggs are good for a dogs coat and that garlic "cooked of course and then mixed into her food was good for her heart. I did know about onions, however i did not know about grapes, a couple of years ago, i used to throw her a few grapes, which she grabbed out of the air and ate, I was well pleased as i thought that the fruit would be good for her, then found out that they were toxic, so i soon stopped that game. It didn't seem to do her any harm though, so i would assume that OPs dog will be ok.

Because some "human food" is what a dog would eat if it was living in its natural environment - meat, eggs, some veg, some fruit.

Commercial dog food is not a dog's natural food!

I take your point, but the theme on here seems to be "ooh a nice cup of tea for me and my dog." I just think it promotes begging which is never good in a dog.

When I was younger, my first dog used to sit at my ankles and beg cos we used to give the end of everything, and I mean everything (I was 9, I've learned my lesson).

The dog I have now would never dream of begging for food and if it falls on the floor, she knows better than to just grab it.
