That is so sad, it sounds as though the religion had ruined you and your mums relationship :(

I would get her a general card that is blank inside and just write what you want.. and maybe some flowers.. I can't see how she could complain at that..

    All the best xx

The only cant I approved of was not being able to have a beard! As I loathe beards, mainly the long bushy ones as per Rowan Williams and lots of M men. I used to know a JW who did not let her kids celebrate Easter, but when the eggs went on sale afterwards she would go out and search out the reduced ones. They were then allowed to eat them??

The list is fairly accurate (I'm familiar with the website, the owner is an ex-JW and I read it a lot after I left) but there's definitely stuff on there that not every JW adheres to...it's sort of the most extreme version of what you're not supposed to do. Plenty of JWs bend the rules (like the Easter egg thing - they won't buy them at Easter because of what they symbolise but after Easter they're just egg-shaped chocolate! Same with Christmas pudding, etc.)

They have a peculiar sort of logic!

Obviously no JWs in Wales as there is nothing there about celebrating St David's Day.

    Send some daffs?

Hope it goes well, just keep smiling!!!
  • Thanks guys for your chearful support.

Still not sure what to do, have spoken to my sister who is not a JW and she has said that she is sending a card and flowers because she celebrates. I do not any relationship with my other sister because we feel out over the blood issue. Yes it is so so sad and makes me feel very lonley

I think that your mum has chosen her path adn you have chosen yours a good JW or christian does not expect everyone to adhere to their beliefs. Do what you always did otherwise you are not being true to yourself. That in itslef is a disregard to the way you were originally brought up.
Your Mum chose her new route, let her embrace it, but stay true to your own values. I do not send cards because they are vastly overppriced for their value.

Write your own poem on a piece if plain card if you wish, whatever the religion I am sure your mum would not wish you to worry this much. Maybe it would be a good idea to ask her what she thinks/feels?

My fathers 3rd wife was a JW and my half sister was bought up in this religion... I think maybe due to my stepmother I grew up with a very (ok extreemly) negative view of JW. Personally I would do exactly what YOU want. If you want to give her a card then you go for it! Surely she can appreciate your gesture of wanting to say "I love you mum" and although you shuld "love your mother every day of the year" then you are not a JW and there for although respecting her religion you are not directly insulting it and you too should have the freedom to express your views :)

    Best of luck

My MIL is a JW, and this came up last week, I wasn't sure so the other half asked her and she said that no, they don't do mother's day. I don't think we are seeing her tomorrow so haven't got her a card.

She also doesn't do Christmas or birthdays, so you generally get some presents just before or just after the even, and always in plain paper, we do the same for her.

She respects that we are not JWs and we respect that she is, I did feel sorry for her being on her own Xmas day, but she was adamant that she was ok and didn't want to spoil the day for us by not taking part in the cracker pulling etc. (had spent years being told by her family that she spoilt things by not taking part)
  • sheshore321 thats all very nice but I was raised a JW untill fa family stopped and then my mum chose to return a year or two ago. I

I would like to thank you all for your kind and honest thoughts.
