eBay feedback boycott

I really can't understand why eBay are going to introduce this, it's crazy. Did they give reasons for the change?
Why couldn't they introduce a system where both buyer and seller can leave feedback (pos./neg./neutral.) but the comments cannot be seen by either party until both have provided their feedback rating.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Too many buyers complained about retalitory feedback - they left a neg or a neutral for a seller, and got one back.
The reason this all started though was when buyers started leaving negs or neutrals without prior communciation, or for reasons beyond the sellers control, or to tell the seller the item had not arrived. As feedback reflects more on a seller, than a buyer, many sellers took umbrage to having their scores marked down unfairly and therefore the whole retalitory neg/who should leave feedback first debacle started.
If feedback had been used properly by buyers, and controlled stronger by eBay from day one, this would never have happened.
So scam buyers are going to have 100% feedback records, just the same as a genuine buyer - this recent change has just blown the purpose of feedback out of the window.
So now tell me that feedback is still an accurate gauge of trustworthyness?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Well, having thought about it, I have set up the petition. No harm in trying, eh?!
Here it is - if you are an eBay seller and do not like the proposed changes, please sign the petition and spread the word!

I think that whatever Ebay do, the market will adjust itself to retain what it wants.
So if you can't leave negative feedback then the market will use no feedback as negative, so buyers with mysteriously low feedback will be assumed to have negatives.
I don't really use Ebay any more.Happy chappy0 -

This doesn't really make sense - everyone starts with low feedback, it's not exactly "mysterious". You can't possibly make an assessment of a buyer based on feedback that hasn't been left - you wouldn't even know that it's supposed to be there in the first place! For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -

There's already a large petition on there. it was started last month when the changes were first announced, it's somewhere on this thread on the ebay forum:

There is already a very long thread on MSE about the changes so I suggest that if people who have only just come across these changes won't to see what others think that you read through the other thread and add your own comments. I'll find it and bump it for you all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Surely this would be the best possible solution
It would deffinately cut out on retaliatory Negs
If the seller wanted to wait till feedback had been left then maybe a pop-up
to tell them that the buyer had left the feedback...

This still wouldn't work. I have more than enough feedback so would have no reason at all to endanger it with a possible neg or neutral. At the moment it is 100% positive (soon not to be I suspect) so why would I ever bother leaving feedback again? To ensure I never got any more feedback I wcould choose just not to ever leave any again.
Likewise a scammer on a hijacked account could just scam hundreds of people and as long as he/she never left any feedback the scammed buyers could not leave any either.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ah, but mine involves actually taking action rather than just signing the petition - and action that will have an effect. I am quite confident that if a significant number of sellers stopped leaving feedback, eBay would soon be hearing from very large numbers of buyers ...For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0
