I have a magic rule which some will like and some wont like.

    - Dont leave feedback until the other person has already left feedback for yourself.

In regard to the feedback issue, simply boycotting feedback isnt going to make a difference with Ebay, its going to take more than that. Feedback issues have already been sketchy and problematic, you cant keep everyone happy and if someone is in a bad mood one day they may leave negative feedback for pretty much no reason, it happens all the time.

I dont see what all the complaints are about, feedback2 had to be introduced to allow more information for potential buyers (And sellers who the potential buyer is bidding on the sellers items) rather than simply a positive or negative. Even if one or two give less than maximum points for each class, it evens out, and in all gives others a chance to more accurately analyse a seller or buyer.

    Cheers

Interesting. If everyone followed your rule, no-one would leave any feedback at all. Is that your intention?

As for the DSR, they don't bother me really. I just ignore them. My service has always been good so I don't need to worry about it in that respect. And I never leave any because I think they're a useless waste of time.

The proposed changes, to prevent sellers from leaving negative or neutral feedback, are a different kettle of fish. It seriously damages the value of having a feedback system for buyers at all. And if there's nothing to be gained from leaving feedback from buyers, why should I take the effort to do it?

  • Not logged into ebay or checked the mail associated with it for a week or so. The idea of only positive feedback for buyers is idiotic. I can see why it has been proposed but if a buyer leaves unfair feedback or if a buyer mucks about with payment the seller cannot defend their reputation and retaliate with negative feedback to warn other sellers. I think frivolous fay has the right idea - a negative comment could still be left for buyers hidden within the feedback since ebay cannot police the whole system but it would be hard work for sellers to decide if the buyer was trustworthy.

The recent seller boycott (mainly in the USA) got me thinking.

How about getting a seller feedback boycott? The new restrictions on what feedback sellers can leave seems to completely undermine the whole point of the feedback system, from the seller's position - so why should sellers bother to leave feedback?

What if sellers agreed to simply stop leaving feedback at all - and sent out a standardised message to all buyers stating their reasons for doing so - e.g.

"In light of recent changes to the ebay feedback system, there is no longer any benefit to sellers in leaving feedback. As such you will not receive any feedback from your transaction with me. If this is problematic to you, please contact eBay
to let them know your concern. I would be delighted to leave feedback if and when a proper, fully reciprocal feedback system is reintroduced."

    Thoughts?

I was thinking something similar the other day.

I think that when the new rules come in, I may only leave feedback for buyers whom I feel have been exceptionally friendly good buyers.

This was my thought the other day, but I will see how it goes when the time comes.

I would worry about the DSR - any one of them under 4.3 and you will be at the bottom of the searches - http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200802261417472.html

It's worthing bearing in mind that a "4" is listed as reasonable, and many buyers may think they are doing you a justice by scoring as "reasonable" - but this is not good enough to sustain an ongoing business in the eyes of eBay.

Scientific scoring for subjective measuring? That's a novelty!!

Like I say, I don't worry about them because my service has always been good. I think my star ratings are all at around 4.6 or 4.7

I don't leave any because I refuse to participate in such a ridiculous and time-consuming sham. And I especially object to the fact that buyers now have six separate ways to rate a seller badly, and sellers will soon have NO way to rate buyers! (I don't count giving positive feedback as a way of rating a buyer when there is no alternative ...)

If you don't like these rules that will arrive in May, then do what I'm doing. Sell all your stuff before then, and get off eBay.

I don't think I could bring myself to leave a positive though for a dodgy buyer..after all how many sellers actually ever read the buyers feedback? All that will happen is that dodgy buyers will get more and more positive feedback.

I always read bidders feedback (espesh on higher value items), so I can decide if they're ok, or if I want to block/cancel them...

eBay has already said that they won't be tolerating this kind of feedback.
