Hi,
Im taking the leap to broadband on Monday and havent a clue how to connect all the modems, filters etc. Can anyone help me out there.
Firstly, heres the equipment I have got with my package.
A broadband modem and 2 filters.
Currently how I connect is I run a lead from my downstairs phone point up to the bedroom and connect via dialup, is it the same for broadband, and if not what do these filters do, and do I need to run another lead upstairs.
Im hoping to have a phone upstairs as well as the internet, is it possible.
And Im connecting with Kingston Comms in Hull (unfortunately the only one)
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help.

The filters remove interference caused by the ADSL signal from normal voice calls and vice versa. You need to have a filter in each phone socket in the house (unless it's unused)
The broadband modem will connect to one socket on the filter at the end of your extension lead and the phone plugs in to the other (larger) one.

So, do I need just the two filters then if Im only using the broadband from the extension lead?
Sorry if I seem a bit slow, broadband confuses the hell out of me.Old Faithful we roam the range together,

You basically need a filter on each socket that's got anything connected to it or you'll hear an annoying screach in the background when you're on the phone (and someone picking up the phone could temporarily interrupt the broadband connection)
If 2 filters isn't enough you should be able to get them for under £5 (some people have reported problems with the really cheap ones you see for 99p on eBay)

Freebyman, if you are using an extension cable as I did when I first set up my broadband you need to put the filter at the pc end of the extension cable. The extension cable I used was the type with a reel where you then put the telephone cable into the reel end. In this case you then plug the filter into the reel and then the modem and telephone into the appropriate places on the filter. Which of course then does mean that you can have a telephone beside the pc.
If you have another telephone socket elsewhere you then put the second filter into that one and just plug the telephone line into it. Now, if you have Sky thats a whole other story but as I don't someone else will have to explain that

lots of the providers have forums where you can see diagrams of how to connect etc,and also ask any question you want however daft you think they might be, I bet someone else has either asked it or wanting to know the answer. Plus with those leads and filters sometimes for just no known reason you may have to plug in and unplug a couple of times to get them working!
good luck im sure you will do it easy.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -
Freebyman, I hope you have successfully set up your broadband okay?
