Is this all I need to go wireless (Virgin)?

We currently have some kind of virgin broadband... We used to have a box which had three RJ45 sockets, but they recently replaced it and now we only have one RJ45 so only one person can use it at a time.
So, we're going to try to set up wireless. I have bought: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WGR614UK-Wireless-Cable-Router/dp/B0000C1WO2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204274696&sr=8-3
The computer which is currently the 'master' does not have wireless capability. Does this matter? My own laptop has wireless capability, and it is going to be the one that connects via the wireless router thing. Basically what I'm asking is: have I bought the right thing, and do I need to buy anything else?
Thank you.

you need the cable wireless router which you have bought from amazon. You plug the non-wireless computer in to this with a cable (usually supplied with the router) and your laptop connects with the built-in wireless, so yes, you have all you need.0

Not possible to say on the information that you have given! Virgin supply broadband via ADSL and Cable/DSL, so until you state what you have? Why didn't you ask before buying? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
... what's the difference between ASDL and cable?
Pardon my stupidity, it's not me who got this broadband and I don't pay the bills... I'm just the dogs-body. 0 -
It is the way that broadband is delivered to your home, via a BT telephone line or a cable to the Virgin network. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

We have nothing to do with BT... We have a phone/4MB broadband/tv package with Telewest/Virgin Media. Does that make it cable? I don't have my dad around to ask as he's away =/ Thanks.0

Yes you have Cable/DSL. You could have stated that in your first post. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Yes, they have cable.
DSL is via the phone line. ADSL is one flavour of DSL.
Cable broadband is via a co-ax cable that is also used to carry the TV channels.
People often get confused because Cable routers are ofren described as Cable/DSL routers. This is because they can be used for ADSL but you need an ADSL modem with Ethernet connection to connect to the router - in the same way you connect the cable modem to the router. These don't include a modem, just the router.
The routers you see advertised as ADSL Routers, are Routers with a Built-in DSL modem (one or more flavours of DSL). - ADSL Modem and Router.
With xTelewest if you are ready to install the router, you need to switch everything off at the mains.
Take the Ethernet cable that currently goes from the Cable modem to the PC and connect it from the modem to the routers WAN port.
Then connect another Ethernet cable from the Router and connect to the PC - this will be your hardwired PC.
Switch on Cable Modem, wait about 20 seconds, switch on router, wait about 20 seconds, then switch on PC.
You should then find you have access on the hardwired PC.
You then need to go into the router set-up page and enable the wireless side of the router, save the settings then exit. Then test that the laptop can access the internet via the wireless router. Once that is done, you'll need to go back into the router and secure the wireless connection, so no one can use your internet wirelessly unless they know a password you will set in the router. This will be under Wireless Security. You'll be asked to enter a paraphrase or word / password or Key.
It would also be an idea to change from the default password for entering the router set-up page.
You just then need to connect again to your wireless connection where your laptop should ask for the key / password you entered in your router set-up to be able to access the net. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... ADSL is broadband over a BT Landline (though line rental doesn't have to be paid to BT, for example it could be paid to TalkTalk, Primus, Sky etc).
Cable is where it comes into the house using Virgin's cable network and will be a co-ax cable the same as the cable to the TV.
Virgin only cover 50% of the UK with their cable network, so they offer Cable broadband in the areas they have their own network and ADSL in areas where there is no cable and this they send over BT lines. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
