I've got an afternoon planned in the greenhouse, want to try again with the tomato and aubergine seeds and get some more going. also looks like i need to do some work on the cabage seedlings they may need separating.
Oh and whilst seeing parents today must ask them to save me plastic bottles to use as mini cloches when plants go outside.

ps. i have a question about onions. i put some in the veggie plot last year and they didn't really do much, i just left them in there over winter and they have been growing nicely, i've put a cold frame over them to keep them from taking a battering but when do i harvest them? are they completely out of season? i'm just confused and i'm sure the poor blighters are as well.

we'll actually done it, there's some tom seeds and aubergine seeds in pots again, this time with little plastic bag hats, hope they don't suffocate. I've also put in some year round lettuce seeds and some mangetout seeds in toilet roll tubes.

Didn't know the answer to this so went off hunting on the web and found this

Looks like onions are a year round crop and I didn't know that so thanks for adding to my growing year:D

Do check your garden this weekend for any loose bits and bobs that might cause damage. Also look at tree staking/ cloche/mini greenhouses etc. that might get damaged.

met office warning gales on Monday.

Is it too early to cut the grass & to repair "worn" patches. The grass is a bit clumpy in places but hast grown particularly long as yet. When would be the best time to aerate it ?

no not too soon, now is fine. My lawn has already been cut twice.
Mow first, then rake it over to remove any thatch and then stick the folk in it. Sow seed in any small bald bits. I have also added some lawn feed to mine.
Might look a bit odd when done but will look fab in 3/4 weeks.

    Hi everyone

I'm afraid I'm doing a cut and run type post as I'm really up against it timewise at mo having the house completely renovated so haven't had a spare minute to even think about the garden as yet. Still not even finished glazing the greenhouse, although I'm quite thankful for that with the battering we're getting from the wind at mo

I think I'm already behind in sowing seeds, judging by some of the posts I've quickly skimmed, so what would you class to be the most urgent to get in soil by the end of this week (indoors) with plans to move out into greenhouse at Easter?

I've got spring cabbage, sprouting brocolli, mange toute, onions and garlic happily doing there own thing in the garden at mo (planted last autumn) so thinking on the lines of toms, salads, peppers, aubergines, squashes etc. What's the latest time I can sow them to ensure good crops?

Oh, I've got some spuds chitting (the freebies from that offer) so they will go in the ground shortly I presume? And how about carrots - too early for those yet?

I know all the answers are probably in existing threads but I won't have time to sit and read through everything for another week or two and I'm worried I'm already falling behind :o

Thanks so much for any help and advice  :A

  • Don't panic - I haven't sown any veggie seeds apart from chilli's yet. I am following this plan roughly
