BT Together Option 1 - Have I got this right?

Personally, I don't give a monkeys if BT changed me from Option 1 to "Line Rental Plan" as I never really use them for calls. The only thing that would concern me, however, is losing my free caller display. So, if I joined up for free evening and weekend calls, I would have to make a "chargeable" call during the day on a weekday? Surely that would work out more than making a couple of evening calls on Option 1 (on the asumption that BT are going for minute billing).

makes no mention of making chargeable calls to be eligible for Privacy At Home.

    Section 1:Exchange Lines

    Part 31:BT Privacy At Home

    Subpart 2:Eligibility and Conditions

In order to be eligible, Consumer customers must make at least 6 calls, ( excludes calls made with BT Broadband Talk ), with BT per quarter. Should these calls not be made, a charge of £5.25 (Inc VAT) per quarter will be applied for the Caller Display service. Business customers are excluded from the BT Privacy At Home package.
The Caller Display element of Privacy At Home is subject to availability.

you're right ... it does not say chargable

You can dial a speaking clock on 01352 838081

    So you could make 6 chargable evening calls to it for 6 x ( 6p 'call set-up fee' plus 1½p/minute) = 45p

What would the weekday daytime charge be for this?

At the moment, each call would cost 6p call set-up fee + 3¼p for the first minute if you're on BTTO1 or 2. From 1-4-08, 6p call set-up fee + 4p for the first minute.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

BT aren't exactly going out of their way to simplify the process! So let me get this right.....if you aren't planning on leaving BT (for line rental) and don't mind continually being locked in, then you never pay the £3.45 or £2.70 ever?

    Yes.

No - the "chargeable" calls condition only applies to those customers on BT Together Option 1 in order to qualify for 'free weekend calls'
Or did I read on another thread that caller display is free with option 2?

On BT Options 2 and 3 you don't have to make chargeable calls - the free 'inclusive' ones are enough..

  • At the moment, the ringback feature (1471 3) is classed as a chargable call so could this be the new cheapest way to get 6 BT calls? The actual call would still go via your CPS.

I wonder. Certainly, the 7½p charge for pressing 3 appears on your BT bill but, if you have a CPS calls provider, the call is sent (and charged for by) the CPS, not BT.

I can't say whether the 7½p fee would count as a 'chargeable call' though.

I tried this number, and it would appear it is not working at present. Some of the otherSpeaking Clock geo numbers are slow (one by about 7 minutes at time of writing), and another that is about 30 seconds slow.01352 838081 was working earlier yesterday, but I wonder does anyone know who is behind this one?The number which 01352 838081 has replaced was 0844 587 8081, same as 0870 765 8081. Both of these numbers have a message saying "The speaking clock has moved to 01352 838081", but it does not now work. Does anyone know who's this is? How would I contact the person concerned to advise of the fault? Thanks.
