Ive Been Charged By Virgin When Using Rebtel's 'smart Call' Feature!?!?!

I recently made quite a few calls from the Czech republic to the UK using my Virgin Mobile and using a service calle REBTEL. Details here-
http://www.rebtel.com/en/How-it-works/How-to-make-a-smart-call/
I did the above no probs at all, until I today received my bill from Virgin for a whopping..£50!!! I should have only paid for the local part of the call, so why the hell has Virgin charged me?? I had 300 inclusive minutes and thought I would be using these instead of paying the international part charge!
Anybody else had this with Virgin Mobile?

I don't quite understand the operation of Rebtel's callthrough and callback options, but in any case I don't think it's relevant to this.
Whether calling a UK or Czech number, you were using your Virgin phone while roaming which Virgin will charge you for.
Next time, look into getting a local SIM card for Rebtel or other callthrough like DialNow, or maybe one of the global roaming ones with free incoming calls.0 -
Hey,
Your Virgin allowance is for local/national numbers (ie uk landlines) and uk mobiles only. Anything outside of this you will be charged for. The Rebtel number is not a local number, it is what is classed as an "access number" (even although I'm assuming it starts like a local area code); I haven't checked but I'm sure Virgin will state in their T&Cs that calls to access numbers are not included in any allowances.
Mobile networks do not have any agreements with companies like Rebtel. Rebtel simply put on their website that you will only be charged for calling the local number they give you; technically, this is correct - you will not be charged as much as you would for calling direct to Czech Republic, but you will be charged for using the access number (same sort of idea as calling an 0845 number etc) - Rebtel simply omit to point out that this may not be included in your allowance.I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0 -
Reading the original post, PAUL7331 said they were calling someone in the uk from their uk mobile while it was abroad. Looking at the rebtel website I cant see it saying the service is intended for use while you are roaming, only that it can be used for cheap calls in your own country if that country is listed as a rebtel country to another rebtel country.0
