Hi
I was gifted a Pacific breadmaker from Freecycle and its all scrubbed up and ready to go.
However, having only ever made bread by hand before, with easy yeast in sachets, please can someone confirm the type of yeast I'll need for my breadmaker? The instruction book says "4 tsp yeast"?Also "3 cups flour" I'm assuming is bread flour?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need to add any fat as in France, Italy, Spain they don't use fats or preservatives or additives in their fresh breads but you can always reduce the salt or use none for a healthy bread. But tomato puree and herbs in instead of salt and you won't notice and it will taste better and taste more of flour and not just of salt.r.a.i.n.b.o.w wrote: »I used a Hovis packet-mix to make some wholegrain bread, followed the instructions exactly (dry mix + 350ml water + 1oz butter, for a 2lb wholemeal loaf set to medium crust as per the packet instructions), but something's gone wrong...it rose OK, but then sunk before the "baking" stage, and I am left with a loaf that's approx 2/3rds of what it should be, with a weird uneven top (looks like gravel that's been stirred about, IYSWIM).

How do I get a dark crust ?0

I use the little sachets of fast action yeast, but 4tespoonsful seems an awful lot of yeast to me. I use 3/4 tsp yeast to 400g flour for a small loaf.
Yes I would say that the flour should be bread flour. I know that there are others on this board who use ordinary flour, but I always use the bread flour, it's about 48p for a 1.5kg bag in asda and lidl's bread flour also comes highly recommended by a lot of people on this board.
I think as well, that it's an american cup size that is used in most breadmakers. I use the one that came with the machine. I think it's 250ml, but I'm sure someone else will give stronger advice on that one.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I have just got a bread maker from freecycle and would like to try and make a fruit cake in it. It didn't come with an instruction booklet, I have been able to download it from the web, but there are not recipes in it (apart from basic white bread). It is a small bread maker, only 400g, a Prima Home Bakery series, if anyone else has this one, I would appreciate some recipes.
Thank you.0 -
Hello all, I found a recipe, just in case anyone wants to try it out here it is:
350g mixed fruit
50g dates
50g walnuts
50g cherries
300ml water
75g butter
3 beaten eggs
250g plain flour
1 tsp bicarb
in pan on hop melt butter, fruit, water
let cool
add eggs, flour, bos
mix well
REMOVE PADDLE BLADE
LINE BREAD PAN
pour in mixture
put on bake setting for 55 mins (check if done, if not put on for further 3-5 mins)
leave in tin 10mins
Any other cake in bread maker recipes would still be greatfully received. ~Thanks.0 -

I've just accidentally pulled the plug out on my breadmaker. It had about 40 mins to go
.
What's the best thing to do. Can't seem to find a way to just start it baking again without it going through the whole cycle.
Should I just shove it in the oven? But what heat?
ThanksNow proud Mumto3 :j0 -
How long have you left it unplugged? Most breadmakers will start again at the same point in the programme if the power has only been interupted for a minute or two.
If it had already started baking the oven may be your best bet but I think if it had only just begun to bake it could collapse. How long was it into the programme before it was unplugged.
When I bake bread in the oven I normally do it at 200 degrees.
