"So they sited it somewhere with high unemployment levels in a "regeneration" (slum) area. Unfortunately they found it hard to get skilled articulate staff so most of them are school drop-outs who are taken on with just one GCSE at grade C or above."

Ignoring the sweeping generalistions in your comment. Scottish school pupils don't sit GCSE's tho.

My LO is allergic to egg - is it the iced Gingerbread men - cos the egg is in the icing. The bog standard plain ones are OK.

It's the individual ones that sell at around 60p each - smarties for buttons with a little icing detail - perhaps that means that the pack of 10 or 12 plain ones is okay? i think what I'll need to do is ask at the bakery if i can have a look through their ingredient folder myself and see what products are safe.

    Thanks for the info.

And let's face it, the Scots aren't exactly famed for their warmth towards the English, so it was always going to be a bit of a recipe for disaster.

    )

    Sweeping generalisations there, eh?

I think you'll find they probably sited it in a "slum" area, as it was cheaper for them to build there.

As for your comment regarding school grades. Scottish children sit Standard Grades not GCSE's. And you'll probably also find that alot of call centre workers are graduates, not school drop outs.

So Scots arent famed for their warmth towards the English? Maybe its cause you hold them with such high regard:rolleyes:

So what would be the solution, move the call centre to england? Nad how would the english treat the Scots if they phoned?

Maybe its just cos im tired, but your post has made me quite angry:mad:

First of all, don't get me wrong, I've nothing against the Scots and I love their whisky and shortbread.

The choice of location was much more than a simple question of cheap land - it was a political deal they cut: investing a large chunk of their infrastructure in a regeneration area in order to "give something back" to the Scots, and no doubt grease a few palms here and there.

They've done a similar thing in Cardiff which hasn't been a great success either.

This is what happens when companies play politics by pandering to minorities and nationalistic attitudes.

My apologies for not calling them Standard Grades. But to all intents and purposes they're the same thing.

Possibly so, but they'd have to be graduates in a worthless Mickey Mouse subject to end up in the dizzy heights of call centre work. I'm afraid that like it or not, the Tesco Dundee call centre is just the next stop on the line from the local job centre. Stick 'em on a desk with a telephone for a fiver an hour, and bingo, that's one less Jobseeker on the streets of Hilltown.

Sometimes the truth is uncomfortable but I'm not going to shy away from it. I'm afraid a large number of Scots dislike the English. I truly believe this is a factor in why their customer service is so poor. Certainly not the only factor, but one of them.

Well England doesn't do a bad job of running call centres, when they're located in a decent area with good skills. Look at First Direct's call centre in Leeds, for example, a shining beacon of customer service with articulate, well educated, intelligent staff who speak in an accent you can understand. (I await the inevitable cries of "racist" for defending England... it's par for the course nowadays).

You certainly wouldn't find 14 of First Direct's staff simultaneously plotting to defraud their employer out of thousands of pounds when they should be busy taking calls off customers.

Sorry. If you're Scottish it's nothing personal. But you only have to look at the frequency with which Tesco's call centre crops up on the Vent section on an almost daily basis. Even taking into account the sheer size of Tesco's customer base, it's disproportionate compared to the number of complaints about Asda, Sainsburys and Morrisons. And please don't tell me it's because people are jealous of Tesco's success. No, it's because the staff make them feel unvalued by failing to resolve straightforward problems.

It is the little bit of icing thats got the egg in - the boxes of small gingerbread are OK. One of bug bares is that the jam doughnuts off the counter in Sainsburys (who R brilliant for looking for things) have egg in but the boxes jam doughnuts don't - its a nightmare !!!! Gave up asking in Morrisons - just got answered with a grunt "don't know" everytime I asked !

  • Just had a horrible experience with Tesco customer services. I rang them to get info on ingredients for a bakery item as my son is intolerant to egg and dairy. To cut a long story short, after a few minutes of her trying to fob me off, I asked her to take my details so that she could call me back with the info, and she hung up on me.

Now really frustrated, can't find another number or e mail for cust services anywhere online, so will have to write to them instead.

Does anyone please have an e mail address for tesco cs that works? Many thanks
