Tesco - customer services

Just had a horrible experience with Tesco customer services. I rang them to get info on ingredients for a bakery item as my son is intolerant to egg and dairy. To cut a long story short, after a few minutes of her trying to fob me off, I asked her to take my details so that she could call me back with the info, and she hung up on me.

Now really frustrated, can't find another number or e mail for cust services anywhere online, so will have to write to them instead.

Does anyone please have an e mail address for tesco cs that works? Many thanks

    Hi,

We have had loads of problems with rude and unhelpful people on Tescos CS after problems with deliveries... now moved to Sainsburys who seem far more efficient...

Sorry, don't have another cs number just needed to get that out....

    Cheers

  • Hi

Not sure if either of these websites will help, but they list telephone numbers and email contact details - http://www.tesco.com/access/help.htm or http://www.tesco.com/contact.htm

    Hope it helps

Thanks ChristineBea - the second link led me to cs e mail, which I have just used - thank you!

IAfter a week of me sticking to my guns, they apologised for their poor service, offered me a £25 gift voucher and said that I'd be receiving a full apology from Sir Terry Leahy's desk when he returns next week. I guess they listened to the call and didn't like what they heard. High-up in the organisation I'm sure they do care, the trouble is probably that the folks who man the desks just don't get enough money to care about how they present themselves.

Good for you re sticking to your guns - I'd love for them to listen back to my call! What surprises me is that you'd expect cs to be recruited because they're good, but as you say if they're not well paid...

E mail now sent, will feedback anything useful - thanks again!

Let me know what item it is, I work in the bakery and could try to find out. The problem is not everyone knows what they should know and people get flustered, no excuse for poor customer service I know but I have many customers come to me with similar stories and I find the best policy is to admit I don't know (if I don't) but I'll find out.

Thanks Belle - it was the individual gingerbread men, but I've now established that they contain egg so no good. I did ask them at the bakery, but they couldn't find it in their folder - as you say, no problem if they don't know, but cs call centre should know where to find out for me instead of just insisting (as they did) that I should go back to the store where i bought them.

Most labelling is very good, but it does seem to be a particular problem with bakery items to get any information, so have to just avoid if in doubt!
  • Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. The trouble is that all Tesco's CS calls/e-mails are handled at their building on the Dryburgh Industrial Estate in Dundee. Tesco located it there to appease the Scots who were hostile to Tesco after they bought up their revered William Low supermarket chain in the 1990s.

So they sited it somewhere with high unemployment levels in a "regeneration" (slum) area. Unfortunately they found it hard to get skilled articulate staff so most of them are school drop-outs who are taken on with just one GCSE at grade C or above.

And let's face it, the Scots aren't exactly famed for their warmth towards the English, so it was always going to be a bit of a recipe for disaster.

Tesco are well aware of the staff problems at Dundee and Sir Tel's team of secretaries in Hertfordshire frequently have to pick up the pieces. But much as they'd love to shift the whole operation to the Far East they're too scared of incurring the inevitable wrath of the whole of Scotland.

(This story tells you a lot about the workforce in Dundee: 14 staff were sacked or suspended for defrauding the company by getting free goods with fake discount codes, when they should have been busy dealing with customers!....... http://www.early-warning.org/viewnews.php4?id=113 )

My LO is allergic to egg - is it the iced Gingerbread men - cos the egg is in the icing. The bog standard plain ones are OK.
