Cracking list of batch cooking
Could you post the recipe for your tomato dahl please ??:o
Sounds like a good thing to have for a wee change from the norm
Thanks
OOh how flattering, to share a recipe, I hope you like it!:A
I put all the following into the slow cooker, and then left it for 7 hrs, but you could boil it all up on the hob (if on the hob, suggest frying the onion and spices in the oil first):
2 cups red lentils,
HM stock (from the veg steamer reduced down) or water, or a bit of white wine
garlic powder (heaped dessert spoon, but watch it the next day, or reduce the garlic, especially if you share an office!:o),
3 medium chopped onions
2 cans chopped tomatoes
heaped dessert spoon cumin seeds
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Chillie powder (1 tsp)
couple of good lugs olive oil, or veg oil
Adjust seasonings to taste, keep adding water/stock till desired consistency is achieved, I have mine quite runny, but some people like it like mashed potato...
I have it with another curry (chick pea tonight!)and plain rice. If my window box is thriving, I snip coriander in too!:D

Hi everyone and well done. I've enjoyed reading your updates and have read all 943 entries this month!!!!!!!!!!
Quick questions:
1.Can you freeze egg?
We put an egg and bacon sandwich filler in the freezer and just got it out to use? It looks very dodgy?
2. Can you freeze peppers?
3. Any good advice about where to buy good value toilet paper?
Thanks

Well, here's my update everyone. Firstly MrsM the tortillas were absolutely fab. They really were great. Thanks again for sharing.
On the note of my little sticky problem - lol. I added more flour when I got to the stage of rolling them out and they were fine to work with. You should have seen me at first. I could have made a horror film in blank and white :roftl:
A couple of them turned out a little brittle - thought maybe I added too much flour on rolling them out - any ideas Mrs M (or anyone?).
I'd make them again. Thanks MrsM for posting them. Again, they were fabulous!Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
... have got it down to £45 a month for us both.:j
Well done Weezl! That is so impressive and awe-inspiring! You have given me renewed hope of reducing the grocery budget. There are 3 of us here, so that should mean that I have the potential to reduce the average monthly grocery bill to £67.50 If I could do that I would be really over the moon! Wow! Go Weezl! :T :T :T
(Wandering kitchen-wards to take stock and see where cutbacks can be made, might make a tray of toffee whilst there, so I have something nice to scoff whilst mulling over the longterm prospects of frugalising my current grocery budget and saving an extra £30+ per month. Wow... Weezl's my hero now)
Becky - see above, I can't afford any Worcestershire sauce now, I have a new challenge to meetI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi SFT
can't help with the egg freezing or the loo roll questions, but I CAN tell you that peppers are dead easy to freeze. Just de-seed and slice them and whack 'em in the freezer, no blanching required!. I stocked my freezer up while Aldi had them at 3 for 59p. Of course, they come out soft when they are defrosted but I just chuck 'em straight into casseroles, chilli, spag bol etc, or straight onto the top of pizza, I don't bother defrosting them as they defrost really quickly in whatever I'm cooking.
hope this helps

Hi mookybargirl
Glad they worked out in the end..
If they were brittle it may have been too much flour, or if they were cooked a bit too long... well thats what i would guess at -going by what mine do sometimes
Becky..
when i do potato salad i simply steam or boil chunks of potato (i like mine in their skins) add some raw finely sliced onions -if you suffer from eatin raw ones ( i do:o ) add the onions to the potatoes whilst they are still slightly warm -it reduces some of the gas in them;) )or you can use chopped spring onion...
then just add mayo and a bit of salt and pepper... if you add the mayo whilst the potatoes are still slightly warm -they absorb more flavour..then shove it in the fridge..
You can also add a spoon of wholgrain mustard...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
My 3rd nsd in a row ..... what's happening?! :rotfl:
It'll never last:D0 -
evening all,
hope all you southerners are doing ok , just seen the photos on the news ..not looking good. Up north we are expecting it tomorrow!!!
Well just caught up on the last 10 pages, not been on for a few days work and all that caper. Had to spend a bit this weekend, £20ish in aldi ( fresh veg/fruit etc), £10ish in home bargins ( cheap toiletries) and a tesco delivery of store cupboard goodies £60ish , will add it all up later and post it.
Every one seems to be doing great out there. lots of home cooking/baking going on. nice to hear how the recipes turn out for other people too. My little halo is on tonight too. Today I have made bread rolls, tortillas, twinks hobnobs, and economy fruit loaf. Having to make tortillas 2 to 3 times a week now, dd wont have anything else in her lunchbox. Its been tortillas and.... all week. Will have to slip in a bread roll somewhere when shes not looking !
Mrs M definately going to try the bagels , everyone here loves the and all your recipes have been good. How long does hm coleslaw last in the fridge ?
Just like to say thanks to all posting the recipes, getting some really useful ideas, recipes are cheap, tasty and most very healthy. i always thought eating cheap meant eating rubbish but thats far from the truth. you lot eat loads of fruit and veg , no problems getting your 5 a day on here.sealed pot member no :0812011- £306.68 2012-£304.36 2013- £387.44 2014 - £441.43
