Mine's cheap and cheerful... fine chop or grate cabbage, carrot and mix with cheap saladcream or mayo... that's it
You can also add some grated/diced onion.
I also cheat for things like prawn cocktail - mix salad cream or mayo with tomato ketchum, add in a sprinkle of paprika and a squirt of lemon juice, hey presto - marie rose sauce or seafood dressing
Egg mayo - chopped boiled egg with chopped onion & salad cream or mayo
Potato salad - diced boiled potatoes, chopped onion and salad cream or mayo.
Cheese n chives - as above with grated cheese & chopped chives
Chives, parsley, mint (for srucing up potatoes) etc are all really easy to grow on your window sill, or you can just re-pot the growing ones that supermarkets sell and they keep on growing in the garden. Wonder how the mint is doing at my last house? It was taking over one part of garden when we left :rotfl:
You can include any chopped herbs etc that you like, but the above are the basics for my cheap and cheerfuls

Hi all,
Chickenpie- Maybe you can still do it, it depends what you've got in freezer and cupboards?! We might still limp over the finish line together, c'mon, I'll hold your hand! Maybe you could post what you've got in, and let all the creative folks on here suggest 3 weeks worth of meals with it and your remaining £20. I believe in the OS magic.
Bye for now,
Weezl x
Thanks Weezl, I went through all my cupboards and the freezer at the weekend, and managed to plan enough meals to last til pay day, will just need to get a couple of bits to add to some of the meals. Also managed to get 8 loaves of decent bread at mr t on Fri evening reduced to 24p each, so should last us the rest of the month. Got plenty of yogurts left for DS, so will need to buy fresh fruit, cheese and milk to last us. Now got about £13.50 left of my budget so may just manage to keep within budget. Thankyou for your support, it has really helped me think about what I've already got in, Chicken PieFeb 2008 Grocery Challenge £160, Spent £163.48

Ok, I have just worked out what I need to buy / spend for my weekly shop on Friday and it comes to under £9, plus say £1 for bread for next week, depending on what offers I can find. That will leave me about £18 for the following week, by which time I will need the same again, plus a few more things that will have run our by then, mostly fruit. So thats sounding more hopeful already. Just hope things dont 'crop up' as they have a habit of doing.0
