Louise, Moniker is right, don't beat yourself up, we're all learning as we go. it took me several months to get anywhere near my set budget and I'm only catering for me! If you're sure you set a realistic budget then just keep trying, you'll get there! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Dh came home last night with a bag of FREE (yes free) fish; customer where he works owns a fresh fish business on Grimsby docks so he took in a load for all the workers to share between them.

    We got
    3 salmoln steaks
    3 whiting fillets
    2 white smoked haddock fillets
    2 plain haddock fillets
    1 large cod fillet

This will make 4 meals for the 4 of us.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Thanks everyone, I've been sitting here catching up and you've inspired me to go out and dig my veggie patch over! This is no small achievement considering how shattered I am so thankyou! :T It'll be my first year of growing anything - currently clueless but it'll be fun trying (hopefully :D). Will check out the greenfinger boards too, no doubt loads of tips over there.

Hugs to those who are struggling, not long now! Need to add up a few things before I shop tonight/tomorrow, then will update sig.

    Happy Easter everyone!

  • Hi Bails- didnt know there was a greenfingers board too, will take a look at that. i have a very large garden, but at the back is a large overgrown patch which would be great for veggies. Only ever done tomatoes, peppers, chillies, lettuce, spring onions and strawberries in the greenhouse. Greenhouse a pressie from my dad a few years ago but needs to get used more really. My dad has an allotment and keeps nagging me to get cracking and grow something. He just called to tell me his 'allotment neighbour' has given him 3 large pork loin joints and we can have one. He had been too busy to dig over his allotment and my dad did it for him ( hes retired and hasnt much else to do). He was really thrilled and being the owner of a butchers he brought the meat as a thank you. Wasn't that nice??? My piece of meat is about a foot long so that will do us a few meals . KEEP DIGGING DAD. leg of lamb can now stay in the freezer a little longer.

Well done on the weight loss too :T ... i still have a long way to go... but im getting there... and finding it surprisingly easy :j .... mind it helps being on the grocery challenge as i think about "how much money" i would be eating if i got those extras in the supermarket :p
keep up the good work :D

What a lovely exchange between your dad and his neighbour... i think its great when things work like that... When i move back home to the Uk i have an uncle who goes beating... gets given game but his wife won't use it so he will give it to me... i will get one of my brothers to pluck n gut -much faster than me at it ;) then i will turn it into casseroles, game pies etc..and give some back to my uncle n brother:T

My mum n me are going to be growing our veggies and swapping over what we produce....

Have got a bit carried away with the peas i have set in the spare bedroom... but have loads of other stuff to get under way this weekend too :D

I would love to find one of those exchange systems when i move home..you know -the one where folks swap trades rather than paying for jobs to be done

jackie w -welcome to the club of epipen mothers - -inm glad you got the epi pen id heard they were reluctant to give them out cos u dont use them and they are expensive but once youve had them they cant stop them. How old is your son - mine is 9 and we are just getting to that tricky stage were he doesnt want to do what mum and dad say anymore - only going to get worse -im keeping my fingers crossed for the injection that will cure nut allergy.

MHE, DS is 2 (3 on 2/4). I cant believe the amount of things that say "May contain nuts", nearly everything says that.

Ive had to adjust my sig, there was a misprint (honest it was), it said my spend so far for March was £891:eek:   . It should have said £89. Dont know how I managed that. Some of you must have been like "what on earth has she been buying". Anyway, Ive sorted it now.

Today will be a NSD for me. Ive hurt my neck, its really sore, and Im not venturing out the door until tonight when we will take DS#1 bowling (dont know how im going to manage that with a sore neck).

    Happy Easter Everyone.
