    OMG I've gone over budget!

Went to Co-op this morning armed with a SMALL list of essentials including a few bits of fruit, milk and stuff for baking. I estimated a spend of £15 and ended up spend £34:mad: I honestly don't think I bought anything that I didn't need so maybe I had underestimated just how long March is!! Will refocus on April! Will update the signature and try not to be too disheartened! The only good thing this week is we've managed to get 7 £2 coins for our collection!

Today I have blitzed the house and did lots of baking. :j Cooked roast chicken for tea and the carcass is currently simmering for a stock. There's plenty of leftover chicken for a pie on Sunday. I have also made some peanut butter muffins, mini easter cakes, part made a birthday cake for DH (Birthday Tuesday but we're celebrating it on Monday as he's at college Tuesday straight from work and won't be home until late evening,) and some garlic bread for the freezer. :D

PS What sorts of veg can I grow in tubs and when do I need to plant the seeds? Indoors first then outside or straight outside?

    Have a good Easter.

Well i have to confess I've been so bad today!!

I spent all day moving my bedroom furniture about (inspired by the shabby chic thread!!) and was shattered. It was only me and DD2 for tea as everyone else was out so decided I'd treat us to chippy tea. It was £7.20!!!! I nearly fell over! And I never even enjoyed it. Feeling really guilty now, thinking how many meals I could've made for that money:(

also bought sausage rolls from the bakery for me and DS2 at lunchtime and that was another £1.

And never even got milk so i'll have to go shopping tomorrow.

JAckie w - youll find that most things say May contain nuts. I think its just to cover themselves as a nut product might have gone down the conveyer belt before that one. I read the ingredient list and if it does not have nuts in it then he eats it. Cadburys choc says MCN but hed eaten lots of that before we knew he was allergic to nuts with no problem. Our Dr said peanut allergy meant it was best to eat no nuts at all but hed eaten coconut with no problems in liquorice allsorts etc so he still eats that now

MRSM - I need your help m'dear. Ive been using my BM to make dough and then baking it as rolls as my BM is a bit rubbish at baking (the top is anemic lokking the sides a bit too crusty - but have just ordered a panny so might help?) Now i like my rolls to be soft on the top and mine are always crispy on the top and nice and soft inside. How do you get a soft top to them please?

  • Thanks Mrs M, that saved me a lot of looking. I may just make up a huge natch of them and freeze some at the ball stage for the next time too, lazy I know:o .
Any ideas for my huge packet of five spice powder? I have a few things that use 1tsp but that's all. I was only a wee bit dearer to buy the big bag from the cash and carry than a wee one from a supermarket;) , but now I have an excess, never could resist a bargain!:o

I use melted butter to glaze my rolls before baking and find this makes them soft.I use milk to glaze if I want a crusty top.HTH
