Oops. Fell off the wagon a bit this evening and we splashed out £21 on an Indian.
I blame this on the shabby chic thread, as I was rushing all over doing shabby chic things and lost the plot as regards cooking. :rotfl:Have updated my sig.
However, haven't been out or had a takeaway for a long time, so I have to say, it was very nice.

I spent £5 on kebab after being on shabby chic thread too.I lost out on ebay bidding:(

Just popped in to see what;'s going on as I'm feeling sorry for myself too today.
Am stuck in Newark airport in NY waiting for a delayed flight to Baltimore - already been on the go for 15 hours and there's 2 1/2 hours to go until the flight and then another 2 hours before I get to the hotel. Boooo!

Getting very fed up of this travelling with work lark - it's no fun on your own.
American airport staff are soooo rude too - been searched at customs, stuck for 90mins in immigration, missed my connection as a result and now have a delay on the next one - they just couldn't care less!

Want to come home and I've not even got there yet! Never mind - I'm flying back on Tuesday - might even still be at the airport then!
Am also missing the BF and doggy really badly this week - me thinks it may be time to start looking for a new job??

On the plus side - the airline gave me $12 to spend on food - pity can't bring it home and add it to my budget!!

    Onwards and upwards.........

(Sorry for the rant - I'd probably get arrested if I said it out loud here!)

I just read about that: poor you. But what you eventually get will be better and worth the wait!
But nice to know it's not just affected my budget! :rotfl:
I forgot. I also had to spend about £8.52 today. So nudging upwards. Worried that there's Easter to cater for now.:D Also, haven't bought my eggs yet...oh dear.Where's the best easter egg deals?

    Evening all
A GROCERY NSD for us but we had to buy football boots and school shoes in town. Also bought Easter Eggs but they're from a separate budget!

Looked quickly at the Co-op this morning for bargains then decided not to buy as I've worked out all the meals until the end of the month and need to keep the remaining budget for milk and f&v.

I think this damp and rainy weather is making us feel a bit down. I was craving chocolate today but was really good and stopped myself! WW on Monday night and if i lose 4lb by Easter Monday I can be entered into a raffle to win a prize! Running Sport Relief 3 mile run tomorrow morning to help towards the weight loss!

Hi Weezl, I've notice a couple of times you've mentioned that you make your own paneer. Pardon my ignorance but, if I remember rightly, that's a sort of cheese isn't it? I'd love to have a go at that. Any chance at all that you could post your recipe please?

    thanks
    Bobby

    Hi Bobbykins,

I got the recipe from a post by sarahsaver who made it for a cheese making competition! Find her post here.

I really like the cheese. I do two types now, a softer kind to which I add olive oil and spices, and squeeze out less whey, and then use this in sandwiches, it's a bit like boursin cheese if you've ever had that?

The other kind I make is a harder cheese, more like unsalty feta, or haloumi cheese. I do this by squeezing out loads more whey, and then leaving it in a tupperware in a warm place to evaporate off more.

I then use little cubes of it fried in garlic and cumin, along with spinach puree to form my saag paneer.

    Hope that helps!

    Weezl x

The only recipe I know which you could use the salt/sugar mix for is if you make "crispy seaweed" at home - basically very finely shredded Savoy cabbage deep fried and about a tsp each of salt and sugar added. Costs a fortune at the Chinese takeaway but easy to do at home...if you like Chinese food! (Also very handy if you ever end up with food poisoning... add to orange/fruit juice for a rehydration mix...sorry but a. I'm a med student and b. I hate wasting things! Don't bin it!)
    DFS

Oooooh, I've always wondered how they make that! It's lovely, thanks DFS!

I'm sure the dehydration thing will come in very handy too. Is that what isotonic sports drinks are then? I could give that plus juice to DH when he goes running...

Ta muchly, I hate to bin stuff!;)

weezl74 have you thought of using dried milk in cooking? I use it a lot

Bother, forgot to fry off the chicken, I will have to do that in the morning, DP decided he didn't want dinner tonight so I had left over casserole (free meal really as I didn't expect left overs) and keep the chicken for another day. Waiting for the massive beef joint (been in the freezer since Christmas) to defrost, hoping it'll be defrosted by the morning so it can go in the SC. I'm sat here wondering how many meals I can squeeze out of it :rotfl: need to raid the freezer in the morning and see what veg we have, forgot to get some and really hope there is something I can do with the roast to stick to my nsd!
One day I might be more organised...........

Cheerfulness and curly cabbage - thank you sooo much for both going over on your budgets - now im not on my own!!! (selfish i know but i didnt want to be the only one;) )

Easter eggs £1 each in Asda

jackiew - i have a doughnut maker - dont use it as much as i thought i would but i think teens wd like to have a go at it. I have the mermaid pie dish (lg size) thats great for making a pie from all the left overs.
I also have a DS with nut allergy. You are paranoid at first but most food says MAY CONTAIN NUTS on it to cover themselves. I read labels at first and got to know what he could and couldnot have. NOw i still check but it doesnt take as long. BAsically if there are no nuts in the ingredients list i let him eat it even if it says may contain nuts - this usually means the conveyor belt may have had nut products on it . My DS has an adrenelin pen in case he goes into shock so if your DS is told he has nut allergy ask for these as they save lives.
