Edit: I've just found this recipe for making condensed milk if you have milk powder. I've never tried it though.

Hi everyone
i`ve just managed to catch up with the thread and it`s great to see everyone doing so well.
A massive thanks to everyone whose posted recipes as well, i`ve spent the last hour cutting and pasting as i go and i know i`ll get round to trying them all.
Our shopping this week will be done on Sunday as it`s my first day off for over a week so i hope there will be some bargains, we always seem to miss them. My meal plan changed a bit this week as i found some stuff shoved at the back of the fridge that needed using up so now thats gone i`m back on the planner.
I`m thinking about trying to have a week where i don`t buy anything and just eat from the freezer and cupboards but i`ll have to plan it carefully as i always seem to need something
Right off to catch up with the daily
Good luck everyone, hope you all have plenty of NSD`s
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning Everyone,
Hope you are all well. Im thinking of making a potato bake with some leeks and bacon, maybe with a cheese sauce????? Do you think this would sound okay?
Ive never made a potato bake before, so, should I cook everything seperately beforehand (parboil the potatoes), then arrange everything in a dish, and pour over the cheese sauce?
How long should I put it in the oven for?

Morning all
Hubby made it home ok yesterday and after sleeping in a hole in the ground all week he was more than ready for his hm savoury meat pie with veggies n gravy (retrieved from the freezer).. bless him he has been eating ration packs all week -so his dinner hardly touched the sides .....
he then had a "snack attack" on the bread sticks i made yesterday -the nom nom nom noises made me think he was eating lobster or something :rotfl: ... I made some poppy seed and some onion and sesame..still have loads left mind...
Today is 8 NSDs in a row.. i did it :j ... astomorrow everywhere is closed so thats 9 nsds guarunteed :T and i have enough veggies n stuff now (with a little thought and imagination)..that i might not even go shopping on Monday either... lets see if i can make it into double figures :rotfl: his is getting addictive... can't wait until my salad starts growing - then i can go shopping even less.. have peas, carrots, onions, beans, cucumbers all making an appearance out there... just need that frost and winds to stay away
Hubby is having duck n pancakes for dinner -frozen last time i did it himand im going to do some special fried rice -great for using up odds n sods
.. and im going to roast the last of the sweet potatoes -sliced with frozen peppers n mushrooms with some chicken (from the freezer) -don't fancy duck
right i will get off again.... poached eggs on toast for lunch...nice fresh loaf i made yesterday mmmmmm
keep up the good work everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

SKINTSCOTSLASS Be carefull, the composting thing is just as addictive as the GC. We started with one composter and now have three:eek: . We compost everyting frome fruit and veg peelings to tea bags, even hair from the hairbrushes (great for adding nitrogen) and tissues. We even get Mil to keep all her bits for us:o . The compost we get is georgous, and free, and oooh what pleasure we got last year when we saw what grew in it.:DGrippy is my middle name!0

Grr... I've finished my shopping for the month as I get paid on Thursday and I've got plenty in for meals till then, but I keep wanting things I haven't got!! I'm all stocked up for soups, stews and pasta and for some reason I'm craving salad! It's not as if it's summery weather either
I think that's one of the things I find hardest about this challenge (and the whole money saving thing in general)- trying to be happy with what I've got (ooh that's a bit deep for the Grocery Challenge!:o). Not having the best day anyway, so the temptation to go and buy something 'nice' to cheer myself up is quite big - but the credit card and loan that I'm trying to pay off testify to that not being a good idea!
Sorry for the moan:rolleyes:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Hi redsquirrel
oh dear, we all have days like that sometimes, instead of a salad have a virtual ((((hug)))) or two:D.
If you can, cheer youself up with thoughts of how well you are doing and all the money you are saving :T :T
I'm sending you encouraging thoughts over the ether.....can you feel them yet?? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I'd just like to send some extra virtual support and encouragement to redsquirrel. You are doing so well with all your budgets and are extremely focussed on killing off your debt. You could always make some toffee and then chill out whilst chewing
On the plus side, it is almost Springtime and I'm reliably informed that it's possible to grow salad stuff on a windowsill - you could plant a few lettuces & a couple of tomato plants. I've planted tomatoes, peppers and garlic chives so far and will get some mint and some parsley going soon
:j
MrsMC - I'm on NSD number 8, as well. :T The downside of that is I don't want to break the trend now, and am trying to work out how to make it last longer so I can get my week to week spending average down! :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
