Hi,
My OH is just putting together a new PC. However, when he powers it up all he hears a continuous beeping sound (long beep). We know the RAM is fine (as it works in another machine), we know the graphics is fine (as it works in another machine).
The board is a GA-K8NS-939, with AMD 64 3200 (Venice) processor, 1GB Kingston Ram (2 512 sticks), Seagate SATA 80Gb HDD.
Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do to fix this?
Thanks

Look in the motherboard manual. There should be something about the beeping. There are a number of different beeps (in length and duration) that you can get. The manual should detail what that type of beeps means and what component (if any) is having a problem."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

I assume all your getting is a blank screen.0

Don't you have the manual?

Question 8: Sometimes I hear different continuous beeps from computer after system boots up. What do
these beeps usually stand for?
Answer: The beep codes below may help you identify the possible computer problems. However, they are only for reference purposes. The situations might differ from case to case.
 AMI BIOS Beep Codes
*Computer gives 1 short beep when system boots successfully.
*Except for beep code 8, these codes are always fatal.
1 beep: Refresh failure
2 beeps: Parity error
3 beeps: Base 64K memory failure
4 beeps: Timer not operational
5 beeps: Processor error
6 beeps: 8042 - gate A20 failure
7 beeps: Processor exception interrupt error
8 beeps: Display memory read/write failure
9 beeps: ROM checksum error
10 beeps: CMOS shutdown register read/write error
11 beeps: Cache memory bad
 AWARD BIOS Beep Codes
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long 1 short: DRAM or M/B error
1 long 2 short: Monitor or display card error
1 long 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: DRAM error
Continuous short beeps: Power error

Have you put the RAM in the correct slots.
With most Socket 939 boards they won't work unless one of the sticks is in a particular slot.
Try both sticks in 1 and 2 if it doesn't work.
Try with one stick in slot 1.
What's the rated speed for the RAM?
The onchip memory controller tends to be a bit more picky about RAM than other setupsHug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Have tried stick 1 in slot 1, stick 2 in slot 2. Stick 1 in slot 1, stick 2 in slot 3. have even tried a single stick in all the slots.
The RAM is PC3200 DDR400MHz.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

And it works fine in my other PC (but its a Skt A)Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

We do have the manual and we also think that its the DRAM error that we're having. No idea how to fix it though. Have tried my PC2700 RAM in the motherboard too...but get the same response.
Ideas?Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Try resetting the CMOS.
Also try a different PSU if possible.
I have built a system using one of these boards with a Venice 3000+, Asus Case and 2 x 512Mb Crucial PC3200. All went very smoothly.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

PSU is new. When I press the power button my fan lights up, so I can't see that its the fault of the power supply.
I have removed the CMOS batter (for about 30 seconds) and put it back in...which had no effect.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
