Agree with Superscaper - changing too many components in a computer will up set the MS validation checking - just make the call to MS - tell them you had to change the MB - may be an issue if its OEM s/w with the MB - but just tell MS the processor everything else is the same -

nothing to worry about they get 1000's calls a day ...

Yep I use OEM windows and had to replace my motherboard once, so long as you just tell MS exactly what you've just changed they usually grant you an activation (I've yet to hear of them denying one when it's legally bought, even for OEM).

  • hmm, if windows wont start how will he check the validation :)

press f8 on startup, startup in safe mode, does Windows start ok like this ?

If yes you have a software corruption or driver problem

If no, you may have a hardware problem or windows is just totally dead, in which case try reinstalling it

If you can start in safe mode try running a disk check

then report back and let us know how it went :)

You may have two problems, one is the fault, the other is windows activation, after you changed the motherboard Windows pretty much detects that as "hey, I've been installed on a new PC" and will ask you to re-authorise, which depending on your type of XP license could be ok, or not :)

Also if the problems have been happening since the motherboard was replaced then I'm assuming whoever did it didn't bother to reintall windows or at the very least repair it to get the correct drivers installed. One can't simply replace the motherboard without doing anything to the operating system. So next important question for supersally is do you have your windows disc to hand?

  • true enough, if Windows didnt get the drivers installed for that motherboard it may well be very upset :D

I had my motherboard replaced recently and now every time i try to power up my computer i get a message saying
sorry for the inconvenience but windows did not start up properly bla bla bla and then i get a blue screen eventually saying disc check needs to be performed i let it run but it happens evry time i power up the computer somebody please help its really getting annoying the pc shop in my area charges too much lol so would rather fix it myself

Would have been a quicker problem to solve - as stated - you need the new drivers for the new motherboard - do an upgrade/repair install of the current installation - or just take the pc back to the place that did the MB replacing .... and ask them to load the drivers ...
