ISP migration
Options
I am currently with Tiscali, and am thinking of moving now my 12 months is up.
Having read through the minefield of ISP's on the market,I still haven't made up my mind where I'm going.
However, this is not the problem to which I require an answer.
When I migrate,do I HAVE to buy a new ADSL modem and filters,or can I use the ones that I currently have, and then just configure my computer for my new ISP?
Ken.

You will only need to change the set up in the modem to put in your new ISP provided username and password, then reconnect the modem (you may also have to change the modem's public IP address if using a static IP). You will then have internet access without having to change anything on your PC.
The only thing you will have to change on the PC is your e-mail client (e.g. Outlook Express) account settings.604!0 -

You can use the same modem and filters.
The only problem is that depending on how Tiscali have supplied your service you may not be able to use the migration process

Tiscali do not support migration so you are wasting your time. They will reject your request. I have been through this with them.
Unfortunately, you are with the worst ISP on the planet and they will do everything in their power to prevent you from cancelling. PM me with your email address & I will send you some information which you may find interesting.
If you are sceptical about what I say register & take a look at Tiscali's Broadband forum at http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/ and check out the many unhappy customers venting their frustrations.
By the way I am now with Metronet Pay & Go which is the cheapest around and the service is excellent. To comapre all ISP's go to http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp0
