The sleeper was under threat and is the only time I have ever written to an mp! Its a brilliant service - i sing myself to sleep with skimbleshanks -
and the only way I will ever get to the paddington first class lounge!
You might not have if you'd seen this first http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/july/6/newsid_2495000/2495703.stm
I'm off to find out all about the sleeper. Not that I even live there any more! I was about 16 miles from the main train line in Cornwall. I only had to go to London for the day for work on about 4 occastions. The train used to take ages once past Plymouth because it's one track and poodles along about 30mph max. Catching the 4.30pm train back, I'd get into my house close to 11pm usually, having got up at 4am that morning.
I sort of knew there was one, but I thought it was one way only, London to Penzance non stop, arriving in Penzance at 8.30am. I was 35 miles from Penzance though. And I've always been nervous about leaving a car in a car park overnight. I went to the Scillies once and the booking office for the boat trip told me that the local scallies knew where people parked for the Scillies boat - and once the boat had come back for the night they figured any cars left would belong to people staying on the island the night. So they'd rob them.

I knew of that. I have lived in the westcountry all my life. Also the loss of a helicopter with children on going to the scillies. Lots of nasties happen everywhere we still have to live our lives.
The sleeper goes both ways and most nights of the week. You can board at Penzance at about 9 and I think it leaves about 10 ish. It poodles along but there is no hurry. because you can board a bit earlier you can get branch lines into Penzance if you were anywhere near one. I catch it from aonter station further up the line.
We went to the scillies last year for a week - left the car at BIH car park. That one is secure. Probably a long way from the train station though?0 -

The trouble with Cornwall is - you can't get anything. You can't buy things. Every day things. There just aren't the shops.
So, the coast might look nice, but think about how good access is to things you need.
When we 1st moved from SE London, I enjoyed the view of sheep and the downs for...oooh, 2 days, after 1 month, the local shop closing at 6pm and the bus service to town @ 1 per hour, none after 6pm, drove me up the wall.
Then, couldn't get daughter into school there (the reason I chose that location) and realised I was really a surburbanite after all.
I was born and grew up in Aberystwith (left aged 8) and have some good memories of wales (plus still can recite a bit of welsh).
I still cheat at my seaside life as I am in London every 2 wks or so for work.
Good luck with the house hunting;)0 -
That means:
The tragic loss of a group of children who were being carried to the Scilly Isles by helicopter some years back. The Scilly Isles are 26 miles off the coast of Penzance/Cornwall.0 -
Gosh I never knew about that. How tragic..
I do however know of the Scilly Islands. Intimately
