Renting on coast

  • I'm renting a full furnished 1 bedroom flat in Tynemouth Village, with sea views front and rear. It takes me about 60 seconds to reach Longsands - one of the best beaches in the UK, and popular with surfers. The Village centre is at the top of my street and scattered with pubs, restaurants and shops. A direct link to Newcastle city centre and a large proportion of the region is also available from the village centre via Tyne & Wear's excellent Metro system.

    This sets me back £500 p/m. All other 1 bedroom flats are similarly priced, with two bedrooms in the region of 600-800. You could probably rent cheaper than this if you live further up the coast in Cullercoats or Whitley Bay, but neither are a patch on Tynemouth.

    What is it about the 'coast' that appeals. You could likely rent a lovely 'coastal ' place in northumberland or East Coast of Scotland.. if your wanting to make sandcastles + eat ice cream though this isn't going to be your preferred option. What are you after?

    Personally I would prefer the raw naked beauty of these stunning places though to a bustling crowded pier in Brighton!

    but it's freezing up there;) . Brighton IS London by the Sea. Loads going on.

    Try RM on Saltdean bn2 (Deco / bungalow suburb to East of Brighton and a great walk into town along the undercliff walk) or Rottingdean, pricey but cute; very Arts + Crafts.

    We have rented for 3 props since moving;
    Ovingdean; Hamlet just to East of Brighton. I hated it.

    Regency, seafront flat ; I hated that too. Expensive, elephants lived above us and their were loads of maintenace problems, Grade 1 listed problems.

    We are now up on the cliff at Roedean. Expensive and v.derelict 1 bed cottage...but the view is to die for plus 30 mins walk into town.

    Saltdean and Rottindean is somewhere we are considering buying (if life goes to plan...NOT!) as we can't afford where we live now.

    I don't want to sound smug (:o ) but we actually have a Lifestyle now :T
    I didn't know living by the seaside could be so uplifting (spritually).

    I love Weymouth, especially if you are into boats and sailing.

    Would love to live there when I am older.

    Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

    You could try this one:

    I am not 100% sure but think that it was moved from Croydon in the 1920's brick by brick and rebuilt on its present site.

    You would think at £1500/month that the furniture in this flat would be a bit posher:
