Help Pregnant

Morning all

I am a single parent on IS. I have 2 children, I was married but have been divorced for 7 years. I have just found out I am pregnant again I'm not with the father. What I am wanting to know is will I be able to claim IS for this baby once it is born as I do my 2 other children? When do I notify the Jobcentre people about this pregnancy? Is there anything else I need to know?

TIA

Once the baby is born yes you will be entitled to claim Income support, you might also want to bear in mind that you will have to inform the CSA. Not sure as to when you need to inform the jobcentre.

  • Thanks for that. Was just wondering about the Jobcentre as I know I have to speak to them about my IS.

Yep got CSA all ready to go (well in time lol) as although we have split up he has said he will always support us, so that is one good thing.
  • Is that Child Tax Credit? I get IS for the 2 children I have right now, and not CTC as far as I am aware. Do I just inform the Jobcentre about this after I have had the baby or is there something I need to do before it is born?

Do you have Work Focused Interviews? If so, I would mention it then. It may mean that you do not have to attend so often (if you are in your final trimester).

If not, there is no harm in giving them a call now. Then you can get any paperwork needed beforehand, so that things are as simple as possible when baby is born.

Good luck with your new baby, and welcome to MSE! x

How old are your two children? If they are older children (I'm not sure exactly when the change was), you may still be on the old system where you received IS premiums rather than CTC. If so, they may use this change to move you over to receiving IS + CTC.

If you want to check your entitlement based on IS + CTC, have a look at the calculator on www.entitledto.co.uk.

As we know nothing about their circumstances, maybe you should lay off giving the OP a hard time?

  • Thanks dmg24.

For Conor. You will be able to rest easy after reading the following information. I was married when I had my 2 children, he pays CSA and therefore makes up the majority of my IS payment. I was engagned to be married this time and the baby wasn't planned but is here or rather will be soon. He has a well paid job and therefore most and if not all of my IS payment will be paid by his CSA payment. Does that make you feel better? I have paid my NI (or whatever it is called) contributions in the past. Everyone is entitled to Child Benefit.

Just a question, if you have multiple dads for CSA, what happens?

Father number 1 pays for all your IS
    Father number 2 pays ??

I take it you wont see a penny from father number 2, even though he will be getting a 15% deduction from his well paid weekly net income?

Hmm I see what you are saying. Won't his payments cover the CTC?

Multiple dads sounds like I have lots of kids with different dads LOL. 2 children both with same dad and 1 on the way with a different dad. Doesn't sound so bad that way. :)

Random thought here: dad 1 will have to pay CSA for 2 children
dad 2 will have to pay for 1 child

If these figures are more than IS i suspect the PWC will no longer get IS and will have to live on the CSA payments, of course that could all be rubbish just a random thought.
