Does it HAVE to be 'white' vinegar or can you use the brown stuff ? Will it stain my bath if I use brown ?0

Brown vinegar will be fine. Mostly white vinegar is recommended simply because it doesn't pong quite so much.
LImescale is alkaline, so in fact any acidic liquid or paste will dissolve it. Citric juice, such as lemon, will work too - it's just more expensive than vinegar. For the loo flat coke works well if left in the bowl overnight. So don't drink coke and forget to brush your teeth

Queenie, uses the remainder of lemons that she has cooked with....if that makes sense....or ones that are about to turn!!!! Haven't tried it myself....and if she was around, I'm sure she's tell you herself
