Hi,
I am going on a cruise out of New York in October. I will be taking my mobile with me. Is there a way my mum can ring us from the UK cheap. I use 18866 to ring the US, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Matt

Cheapest is for you to call her, only you pay for the call. If she calls you, both you and her pay for the call. Alternatively get a American PAYG sim card when you're there and get her to call you on that.

    Firstly is it a tri-band phone ?

If your "roaming" the person calling you from the UK pays normal rates or if they have free minutes gets them free.

Depending on which network you are with and which US network partners yours, you will be charged for receiving a call, ring your customer service for the incomming /receiving charges.

All in all, your mom will be fine but you will have a bigger than normal bill :p

When you say a cruise starting in New York, where to? The Caribbean? Or just the American coast?

    They are right to say tri-band, or even quad-band. (Europe 900 & 1800, USA 850 & 1900, Caribbean various).

I'd go for a US SIM for there and Riiing for the Caribbean.
