If you have a mac and have bought microsoft office for it - you can upgrade for the price of VAT and P&P, think it cost me about £15 - there are time specifications of when you need to have bought your software, unfortunately I can't quite remember them! try these links
    https://www.microsoft.com/uk/mac/default.mspx
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=C88A5621%26nclm=office2006
If no luck - i had problems with links - contact apple and they will advise you!
  • Thank you so much for that, you've just saved me a few hundred quid and I've got a better version than i could have ever afforded! Im an NHS Employee and have just got it for under £18, which ties in nicely with the free laptop I just got from AOL - Im so glad I checked my emails today, and will be passing this on to all of my colleagues.

just had a skim through this. I know this may seem a really stupid question but wanted to check first.... I am about to purchase a laptop but might not have it for another couple of weeks. Will it still be ok to get this software now and put it on a computer, that I haven't purchased yet, at a later date (i.e. a months time).

Many thanks to anyone who can help

    Microsoft Software Offer

Microsoft's Dreamspark programme provides free, fully-licensed copies of Microsoft products such as Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and SQL Server Developer Edition. Further information is available at: https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/

This offer is available to all Open University students as long as they register for the NUS Extra Card. For more information or to register for an NUS Extra Card, go to:
    www.nusextra.co.uk.
It's worth adding that this offer is open to ALL students, who can verify their student status, either through their university login, or via their Athens ID.

If you don't have one of these, then the ISIC card, or NUS extra card (same thing) will work - just follow the instructions on the site to verify (or see http://blogs.msdn.com/edunhill/archive/2008/02/20/dreamspark-verification-update.aspx)

Yes - you'll be fine with this.
  • I bought this last week - depends if you like Microsoft Office or not - but I am not a student - the offer is also open to anyone working at a higher education institution - you need an '.ac.uk' email address and thats all.

    hmm... intriguing.
  • RM do versions called the basement, that's true, but you pay for SINGLE machine use only. If you have 2 or 3 machines, you can by Student Editions of MS office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook only) which are 3 machine licences. The price of this varies between £80 to £110. DABS.COM is 88 for PC and 90 for Mac

MAC users might like to try NeoOffice. It's based on Open office, BUT all the hard work has been done for you, and X11 doesn't hold up proceedings.

I've just got a new laptop with a trial version of Office 2007 on it. I rather like it. Can I just get the Key code(as I have an ac.uk email address and am an Open Uni current student) and not go to the trouble of downloading the software but use what I currently have?

    Any ideas anyone?
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Ordered my copy of Office 2008 for the Mac a couple of weeks ago. They aren't fast at shipping things though. :(
