Does anyone know if this can also be bought by school students?

My daugter is 11, but has a .ac.uk email address through her school.

    Can't see why not ...

    Eligibility.

Entry into this promotion may only be made by students who are enrolled at an education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, and possess an email address with the suffix 'ac.uk', 'ac.im', 'ac.gg' or 'ac.je'.

As mentioned earlier there are more offers from Microsoft here
    http://www.software4students.co.uk/

Students and parents can purchase a range of software at discounted prices including Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 for under £49. All you need to do is login, pick your products and checkout - no student card required!
  • I bought full price (£450 or something for a slightly lower spec than is on offer here) 9 months ago because I needed it for some fancy features that my clients use. But to be frank its not worth £40! I can't tell the difference from the previous version of Office and its no more stable for me. If I were a student I'd buy it because its so cheap, but then again OpenOffice is cheaper and has a more familiar user interface.

Please checkout this web site which provides the educational licences all year round
http://www.software4students.co.uk. I have just attempted to log onto the site which a number of clients have recently used successfully, but it is showing as down for a "major" upgrade?

There is also a chance that you can get an heavily discounted Office 2007 individual licence for personal use from your employer if you work for a large corporate (e.g. NHS).

  • Hi,

There is another on-line office suite that wasn't mentioned. Google also have an on-line suite now. It has word, excel and power point compatibility. You can also export as a PDF if you want to. I have been using it for over a year now with no problem. It works with Internet Explorer and Firefox, but you can only read docs with Opera. The new version of Firefox which is currently only at beta stage now works a lot faster with google docs.

Just need a google email account.

So sadly no it isn't compatible with a Mac

Well technically thats not true. If you have a recent Mac with Intel chips in it, you can install Parallels or similar which will let you run windows. You can then install any normal windows program and use it, making it quite possible to use this office version on you Mac computer. I do it every day.

When i was looking for new versions of Office for our company i noticed a very good deal for home users; you can get a 3 licence retail copy of Office 2007 Home & Student. The online information says that this is for non-commercial use by home users, not necessarily students.

This is a boxed, retail version which is available at the normal outlets (Amazon, Softwareselect, etc) and is priced very nicely (around £75-85). This is not the complete office suite, but includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

With the addition of allowing you to install onto 3 home computers (legally) this is a bargain which MS aren't known for.

Oh and you can get the 2008 version for the Mac (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Entourage) for a similar price.
  • You can get discount software here...

They do the Pro Plus Office 2007 for £45.99 and Office 2007 Standard for £35.50

They also do Office Mac 2008 for £35.45 :j

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Microsoft Software Offer

Microsoft's Dreamspark programme provides free, fully-licensed copies of Microsoft products such as Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and SQL Server Developer Edition. Further information is available at: https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/

This offer is available to all Open University students as long as they register for the NUS Extra Card. For more information or to register for an NUS Extra Card, go to:
    www.nusextra.co.uk.

Please note that, whilst the web site says that your card will be sent to your student union for collection, OU students who have already applied for and received cards inform us that their cards were sent to their home address.

For the mac I can recommend http://www.software4students.co.uk, who currently do the Office 2008 package for under £40 including delivery for all students (not just university). My disk arrived within a couple of days and is excellent for the money. The company is also mentioned on the microsoft website if anyone is concerned about it being legit.

Thank you so much for this, I have just purchased Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 for only 48.39! I could never have afforded the full price. Now I can type out my Governance course work in Word instead of Works which I don't think is as good (though it's probably only because I have used Word in work for a gazillion years and am more used to it!).
