  • No lard supply problems in NI as far as I'm aware. Wonder why?

not sure arkonite. none last night in sainsburys though.
  • Never mind Lard - what about the sad loss of Mark and Lard from Radio One - I really think there is a sinister agenda surrounded by the lack of Lard and taking Mark & Lard off Radio One was just the start!

I am a veggie so dont eat it myself - but I do buy it to feed the blue tits and starlings - if I dont get time to make a seed cake for them with it I get stale bread and make lard sandwhiches and cut them up into small cubes and pop them out on the bird table - both the blue tits and starlings seem to enjoy it. Why bother with the Starlings I hear you ask - well they are on the decline, so don't forget them when you pop out the bird food.

sainsburys had tons of it yesterday. ;D
  • Had to send Mr TM on a mission to get some yesterday. There was none in Asda on Friday - just a gap. However, Mr TM came up trumps with a block of Tesco value stuff from the Blackburn Tesco Express.

Just been making my pastry for the mince pies. I was laughing to myself that I spend all year grilling my bacon and sausages then throwing the fat away (in bin) then I buy it for the pastry. ???

However, I have just calculated that my mince pies will contain about 6g of fat whereas the Tesco deepfill ones I usually buy have 11g fat per pie!! And I've just read the above link and it says lard has fewer calories than butter :D So, my money saving tip to myself as well as weight saving tip, is to make all my own mince pies. I know this is old hat to most of you, but hey, we MSEers have to start somewhere. ;D

OK folks, fresh mince pies and gingerbread biscuits will be served this afternoon. Bring some cream will ya? ;D ;D
