Following MarkyMark's note, I actually made a point of going and looking for Lard (Sainsburys). There's actually a sign up there as well saying about a "European Shortage of Lard" - how did this happen! ???
Phone the press ;D4oz rice crispies, 4oz butter, 4 mars bars.Melt, mix, cool, eat. Yummy!0 -
Delia Smith must have mentioned it - never fails ;DI haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0

I think this European Shortage malarky is just a smokescreen. This is the real story...
The Lard industry has got word that the Government for our betterment have a plan to ban it and have gone undercover to avoid detection. Unfortunatly the only disquise available at Lard Head Office was a pair of clacky stilletoes, hipster jeans and a selection of tops with babe, diva or b*tch emblazoned on the front in sequins. To further fox Health Officers it has died its hair an unatural shade of yellow and stands outside the shops that used to stock it, smoking and saying "init" alot. Check out your local high street/pound shop and you should be able to spot it. ;DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
I make my own.
Every time I grill bacon, sieve fat to get rid of bits and save in a tub in the fridge.

We use lard all the time! Fry eggs, sausages etc in it and cook our Sunday beef with it too! Our local Spar sells it and so does Sainsburys.0

What is the best way to stop Lard blocking up the drains (other than not putting it down the drain)?
My M in L uses it to cook everything and within about 6 months the drain blocks up. Nothing will shift it. Tried various shop bought drain unblockers but always ends up with hubby on his knees with his arm half way up the drain scrapping it out :-X, then he comes home stinking of drains and lard :-X.
Have tried drilling into her not to put it down the drain - even if it's still a liquid but you can't teach an old dog new tricks (so the saying goes)When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
If I need to tip lard or fat away I turn on the hot tap and half fill the sink with hot water and some fairy liquid. I then tip the melted lard into this. This way it won't clog anything up when you pull the plug.0

Lard hunt update from the weekend:
Sainsbury's - none
Tesco - just a gap in the shelf
Some appeared in Kwik Save on Saturday afternoon (though I'm reliably informed that they hadn't had any stock for some time).
Very interesting to read about the 'shortage' signs appearing. Damn those health police! ::)0
