Can anyone please confirm which are doable using public transport - we are a family of 5 so for example 2 taxis from Rome airport would work out too expensive.
We did Dublin last time .

All i can tel you is there is no railway station at Rome (Ciampino) airport,I am told you would get a bus to the station from aerport.. Dont confuse the fact that there is a railway station at Rome Fiumincino-a different airport. There is also a bus (coach) company called terravision www.terravision.it which goes every 40 minutes-ish from directly outside ciampino airport to central rome. (and from several other INTERNATIONAL destinations for anyone looking for transport from other countries) 5 euros adult 3 euros child one way, in Rome. They advise being at the bus stop 3 hours before flight departs(Rome traffic can be unpredictable) .Central Rome railway station is called Termini.

Or you would need to get the bus to the end of metro line A (Anagnina) and take the metro from there (cheapest option i think).Think it is do-able-depending on your times of flights.
  • Lubeck is doable, fifteen minutes on the bus to the town center, worth a look at the old town. Did venice as a day trip a few years ago, stanstead treviso on ryanair, got 8 hours in venice, shattered for a couple of days after though.

If these 1p flights get repeated after the site re-vamp,it would be handy to have a seperate thread with the public transport options, taxi prices , from various ryanair destinations,to town centres.Does anyone know if there is a thread like this?
  • What about Belfast. Definitely doable. The city airport is only a couple of miles from the centre and I think there's a coach that will take you in. I can recommend the open top bus tour.

Pisa - only 5-10 minutes by local bus. Cost negligable.

Valencia - 20 metro ride directly from airport (8 euros each for all day travel card - so will get you back if doing a day trip).

Dublin - we got a family all day travel card for something like 8 euros (again excellent value for a day trip).

Venice - Not so cheap. We hired a small car for about 50euros and used that to get us to from the airport, hotel and carpark just across the bridge on the main island. As there are 4 of us, it was the cheapest option.

Ryanair have this information on the site under "destinations" there's usually a terrevision bus service from the airport into town.

Look on their map for flights to other cities that are Ryanair bases, they tend to have more than one flight a day to those cities (obviously for a day trip you need a city with a very early flight out and a very late flight back). I've done Milan and Dusseldorf for the day from Stansted, and Dublin for the day from Bristol a couple times. Got great looks coming back to work after 1 day off saying I'd been to Germany or Italy, didn't mention it only cost a couple quid :p
  • Ryanair website is now very slow. Hoping to book a day trip from Bournemouth - any suggestions on destinations.
