One of my friends did Paris in a day, flying from Prestwick...she was shattered the next few days, but had a great time!!If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0

My vote would be for rome ciampino, you can get a cab outside the terminal into central rome for a fixed price and you can do the big sites in a day if youve got good shoes on, only downsides are the pickpockets, west african handbag sellers and people trying to peddle rubbish on you at the big sites, other than that a wicked day out
all the best

Glasgow Prestwick is a great destination for the day. you can get into Glasgow city centre from the airport within an hour, loads of great shops and museums/art galleries or you could go into Ayr only 10 minutes away. Ayr is home to Burns Cottage and has good shops and a graet beach if you catch a sunny day in May or June.
Also enter this competition and get a free guide book that includes Glasgow + the chance to win a 4* star luxury break

I asked this question last time and I remember that Pisa is great for a daytrip as the airport is in the city and only ten minutes from the Leaning Tower.
That's what I want to book tomorrow!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
We've done a few.
We did Pisa in a day. Boarded the plane just before 7 and were leaning atop the tower at midday. Great place for a day - but no longer.
We also did Valencia in a day. Slightly harder work and we fancy going back to finish seeing the sights we didn't have enough time for. Would go again for a day and spend most of it at the City of Arts and Sciences.
But the best day trip was to Venice. Actually, bit of a cheat. We flew out late evening, slept near the airport and then went to the island the next morning, flying home that evening.
I reccommend loads of pre-planning - especially if you have kids. The Valencia trip was planned with military precision, with ETAs at various sights, contingency plans for unexpected closures or weather conditions, as well a rest and snack stops.
Let us know what you book.0 -
Although I went for two days you could do Stanstead to Salzburg in a day. A nice city with a lot to see in a small area.0

Hi all thanks for your replies!
I should just add that our local airport is liverpool! I Don't know if that makes much difference to the day trip destinations?0 -
rome taxi costs about £30 each way (thats if you dont get ripped off).Allow for Rome traffic if you return by taxi.Remember to prepare well, not all Italians speak English as well as eg spain. If you goto Venice take your wellies.Check the Foreign office site before you go somewhere new.0

Can anyone please confirm which are doable using public transport - we are a family of 5 so for example 2 taxis from Rome airport would work out too expensive.
We did Dublin last time .0
