OH has an 02 Mondeo Zetec. It's a fantastic car, especially on the motorway. OH was considering a Vectra when he bought it 3 years ago as he had driven both on driving courses with his job.

No brainer: the Mondy.
My 1997 P-reg' Mk.2, 1.8 Zetec-E engined, LX Hatchback is nearly 11 years old, I've had her since November 2001 and she is the most comfortable, most powerful (altho' not quite the fastest) and - touch wood - the most reliable car I have ever owned. Evidently, the Mk.3 is even better and the new Mk.4 even better still.
She has only let me down 3 times, twice with a dying battery, and once when I accidentally left the radio on and discharged the new battery. She has also only just failed an MoT for the first time, for a worn lower suspension arm bush, which happens anyway. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
It's my understanding that the test criteria for Mondeo lower suspension arm bushes has changed. Can't give you the technicalities, but it was such a common Mondeo failure, apparently, that the problem was looked at more carefully, and it was found, in most cases, to be not serious owing to the bushes being much more robustly designed than was thought to be the case. The left hand one is a bit of a swine to replace, because the engine has to be lifted, hence a nice hefty repair bill. Im sure someone else knows much more about it than I do....0

Thats cos of the fly wheel... While thats all out and in bits, you may aswel throw a started motor on. Sounds ludicrus, but when the started starts slipping - thats the start of your problems...0

The Vectra has always been Vauxhall's weak link. Dropping the 'Cavalier' name back in 1996 didnt help either as the Cavalier was an excellent car with a massive following. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
