Anyone recommend a DAB Radio

I'm with jmarko on this. I've read all the articles. I then listen to FM and DAB back to back, both on reasonable systems, both internal aerial because with a 3-storey house I don't fancy venturing on the roof : on BBC Radio 2 and Classic FM, regardless of what the doom-mongers may say the subjective quality is far better on DAB. Incidentally, I have systems in 2 rooms and would say the same applies for both these systems.
Dynamically, it sounds about the same. What's missing is the hiss you always get with FM.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
I have the Pure Evoke 1xt with the additional speaker, which is a superb unit. I have no problems with the quality of DAB.
What I will say is for those hi-fi enthusiasts amongst us, FM may well sound better than DAB, but for those who listen to radio on 'kitchen' radio's DAB is much better.
There are plenty of models available below £100 and I would suggest that if you can, get down to a shop and see the product up close, have a play with it, listen to the sound quality and then make your decision.
I listen to more radio now than ever before and that's purely because I have a DAB set.0 -
I bought a Sharp one (they only do one I think) from Richer Sounds and am delighted. It was £60. It does everything I wanted - works on mains and battery, has a radio/alarm facility and can be connected to the main stereo. It is a neat boxy design, not one of the retro looking ones and is easy to carry around and plug into different parts of the house. It can pick up many stations (about 30) and the sound quality is excellent. It also has a big screen so can be read easily. The first one I got went wrong after a couple of months, so I took it back to Richer Sounds and they swapped it no questions asked for a new one which is fine!
I listen to the radio far more now, plus there are different and better stations on DAB. I do have cable TV but don't find the selection of stations that great, plus it's only in the sitting room which is no good to me. My clock radio in my bedroom only picks up Radio 4 and Classic FM (both fine, but it's nice to be able to vary them!) so the DAB is great for this too.
I'm very pleased with it and don't regret the purchase at all. My brother's girlfriend has the PUre (only one speaker) and it sounds brilliant0 -
Got a BUSH DAB radio alarm clock for the bedroom and have to say it is my favourite buy of the year so far. I only listen to talk/news stations and the quality of speech is amazing compared to AM radio. No interference whatsoever. The only thing that bugs me is the start-up time - do all DAB radios have a long start-up time??0

You can get a little box that when you plug it into your existing hi fi then it turns it (your radio) digital, I 've got one they are from dixons under 50 pound and very tiny, they come with a remote, I cannot get more details from it currently as i'm not nearby, but its worth looking at. sorry to be only half a help today.... I must say I am not that impressed! yes there are some different stations that you could not ususally get, but the ones I like are full of cheesey ads every few songs, it puts me off. Jazz fm was great when it was more soul based, I was told this station got sold off and it really is jazz all the time now...quite boring, just like on 'the fast show'...... mmm nice.... for those who like it...0

I've had a Pure Evoke 2 (two speakers) for about 6 months and I'm delighted with it. Excellent reception and sound quality. But I have to say watch out as the number of stations you can pick up depends on the quality of the DAB receiver. We got a cheap Alba DAB radio first. We had checked the Internet site to see what stations we might receive in our area - it said reception wouldn't be great in our area and to expect very few of the BBC stations. The Alba was dreadful. Reception depended where you were in the house and we got very few stations. But a friend living in our area had the Pure radio and he said it was great with plenty of stations so we borrowed it and true enough it gave a great range of stations and it doesn't matter where we are in the house, so we bought one. Moral of the story - if reception in your area is supposed to be moderate to poor try borrowing someones DAB radio (preferably a quality one) to check reception where you are first.0

I bought the Pure Evoke one for my partner last year - he listens a lot to the radio a night. Trouble is, he listenes with an earpiece and is in danger of knocking himself out if he pulls it off the shelf via the earpiece if he turns over in bed!!!! This Christmas I am getting him the small Sony one Amazon.co.uk: Sony XDR-M1 Portable DAB Digital Radio: Electronics & Photo so that he can hopefully keep it under his pillow and avoid knocking himself out!! I have great faith in Sony.0
