I bought the "Red", which is Sainsbury's own brand. It cost £50 and I think it is very good. This is a mains/battery portable and also has FM. There are 10 pre-sets, the sound quality is good and the screen is not too bad to read. As to reception I don't seem to have many problems. Here in the Trent Valley we are practically at sea level and I live in a bungalow. Even so I can receive 29 stations even without the aerial extended.

I got the Pure Evoke 1 in a closing down sale at Index for around £60 down from £90. Sound quality is great - only has the one speaker though and isn't very portable (mains only).

The problem with DAB radio in the UK is that the sound quality is atrocious on any receiver due to the low Bitrate which is broadcast. An ordinary FM radio will give much better quality - only attraction is the range of stations - plenty of information here http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/dab_summary.htm

    DAB's fab - don't listen to the doomsayers! :p

The Pure range (and I think the Roberts ones but don't quote me) use a better decoder thing. The Bug, imho, has poor sound quality due to tinny speakers and a plastic box. The Pure Evoke 1 is still the daddy. It may only have one speaker but, it has to be said, two speakers set next to each other (see intempo and others) won't actually help you much in the stereo stakes because the sound will still hit you square between the eyes (and ears!).

I listened to a silly number of dab radios before purchasing mine and am in the market for another and, to be honest, i'll probably go for another Pure Evoke of some description (with a single speaker!). The sound is so much richer than the others, the reception is solid (dependent obv on where you live), it works and i get the feeling it will continue to work because it's well built.

buy one - you won't regret it!

All depends on what you want to listen to. I don't own a dab radio as I can recieve all the digital channels I want to listen to on either a pc or via a freeview box. In fact i have an old ITV digital box connected to some pc speakers (they came with a dell pc) and no TV - the total cost was about 2 quid for a RCA phono to 3.5mm jack adapter.

    Cheapskate or what !
