  • yeah january is definately the toughest month for looking at the credit card statement and bank balance, give it a few weeks and things wont look as bad.

Mortgage statement came through today and this is an accurate overview of our current standing. If we keep paying off at this rate we'll have paid it off in 9 years and 4 months. Which brings it forward from Oct 2024 to Jan 2019 (as I'd worked it out last year) down to May 2018!!!! Getting closer to my 2017 aim!!! It's very exciting!

Mortgage at start of January: £ 39'767.97
    Overpayments in Blue.
    Interest in Red.
    Balance in Green.

Month: Payment (Std / OP) / Interest (per day) / Net reduction / Balance

    January: 450.00 (328.81 / 121.19) / £178.62 (£5.76) / 271.38 / £39,496.62

Totals: Payment / Interest / Net reduction.

    Minimum: 450.00 / 178.62 / 271.38
    Maximum: 450.00 / 178.62 / 271.38
    Average: 450.00 / 178.62 / 271.38
    Grand Total: 450.00 / 178.62 / 271.38

    Balance outstanding: £39,496.62
Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25
    % of house owned/% of mortgage paid off. July 25 - 38.82%/31.66%

Feeling very accomplished tonight. I've sorted the finances, folded and put away 2 lots of washing, put on and hung out another 2 lots AND done a full class set of reports! BONUS. Not to mention cooked tea and put away lots of pots etc.

So, I think I'm due the rest of the night off to sit on my bottom and slob out!! Yey me! :D

I have finally finished all my reports for years 10 and 11. So thats 4 classes down and only another 4 to go!! Woo hoo!!! The next ones are more staggered though, so it shouldn't feel as traumatic.

Odd thing happened - DH's landlord is a science teacher down in Wales (mid/late 50s). He asked if I was looking for a job down there and apparently was asking loads of questions about me and what I do etc. He asked if I'd want to pass on a CV and go into the school at half term and meet the Deputy head and other members of the department etc. Seems very odd.

He said it's just in case anything comes up, but I'm sort of hoping there is something he knows that I don't. It would be amazing to live with DH down there. I'd love it. Although I'd hate leaving my current job, I love my little team.

It's parents evening for year 11 on Thursday which I'm not looking forward to - but there again. It will be nice to have it out of the way! Bring it on!!!

thats good news, and what luck that your DH knows a teacher :) hopefully they'll get back to you. do you think it would be a difficult decison leaving your current job?

It would be hard, but at the end of the day I'm cheap now. If I get to the top of the pay scale I'll not be able to move unless it's for promotion. Which would make it even harder to get a job in Wales!! Crumbs!

So I'd have to take the plunge!! Besides, I have family there so it's not like I'd be alone...and I'd have my DH back! :D Although...if it didn't have the right vibe about it and I didn't click with the people and ethos, I'd never take a job there.

Having said that it's an informal chat so highly unlikely something would come out of it...but you never know! Keep fingers your crossed.

Nice to have a potential option in Wales, as you say it's an informal chat but who knows what may turn up!

I've withdrawn my £50 from Yougov, so that can go into my ISA next month. I'm hoping that will break me through the next thousand pounds mark. :D

Looks as though we've come in with a mini profit at the end of the first month of the year. I can't see it happening for long though...we've lots of credit card bits to pay off...although they are all interest free.

Good news is despite the massive use of the central heating over the last few months...we are still £110 in profit and obviously we've not even paid the installment for Feb. And I think we aren't far off kissing goodbye to 39K on the mortgage. I'm very excited! :D
