I've tried downloading this several times now, from Cnet and from some other sites, and can't get beyond about 15% of the download. Could the current virus checker installed ( On Dell Vostro100, McAfee 30 day trial) be blocking me from downloading avg? Won't be paying McAfee for a subscription when the trial ends so would appreciate any advice on how to get around this or any clue on what's happening with avg. Thanks.

Dont think it will be your virus checker blocking it.

Try Avast instead: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

It is also free and slightly less intrusive than AVG. Used to recommend AVG but find AVAST to be better.

Have you tried downloading it directly from the company that makes it?

I always do that to be sure (as best you can) that it hasn't been tampered with by someone before being offered up for download.

Yes, I have tried unsuccessfully to download from Grisoft official site. I'll try avast instead. Thanks for your help.

Downloaded AVAST last night & now can`t access my e-mails on Outlook Express. comes up with error message`concurrent connection limit in evast exceeded` `there is a collision with another program Post110 secure(SSL).

Any advice ?.

Yes,Kaspersky but Firewall & Automatic Updates are on & Virus Protection is Off.
These were installed when I got new Lenovo computer but the virus protection swiched off after 3/6 months & asked me to purchase a new licence but every time I clicked on it ,it wouldn`t load so I just gave up on it. Forgot about it for a few months & when I saw the above recommendation I thoUght I would try it.

You can't have two antivirus programs installed. They will conflict with each other whether they appear to be actively scanning or not. You should always uninstall existing AV software before installing another one. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the source of your problem.

Thanks superscaper. I thought that would be what you would say. Does that mean I uninstall Avast or Kapersky. Karpersky has firewall so I don`t think I should get rid of it or does Avast include a firewall.

No, Avast is just an anti virus. I'd uninstall kaspersky if the license has run out (unless you plan on renewing, it's meant to be the best you can buy except for Eset). If you stick with Avast, then you could install either Comodo or Zonealarm, both have free version firewalls. Worst case is you use Windows in built firewall anyway. Also remember to have some antispyware installed such as superantispyware, spybot s&d, ad aware any of those or a combination of them (you can have multiple antispyware programs installed).
