How long to remove CPS

hi

A relative has recently taken up BT's offer and applied online to upgrade from BT option 1 to the new 12mth renewable option 2 call plan.

They also had an out of date onetel CPS call plan on their line. CPW bought Onetel a year or two ago.

They now observe when they log into their BT online account, they are on BT option 2 call plan.

But they have not received any correspondence from BT or CPW with regards to CPS being removed, or having been upgraded to option 2.

Does anyone know how long it would normally take for CPS to be removed? Can BT do it instantly, or is there always a delay?

Is there some method of testing for presence of CPS?

About 2 -3 weeks I think, it will just happen.

But with using CPW it may be different if the line was moved over onto a LLU system.

Relative still paying line rental to BT so I don't think it is LLU.

Turn on BT's charge advice system (pick up the handset, dial *411# and hang up) and make a call. After hanging up, within 5 minutes at the very most you should get a call back advising you of the cost of the call. If this does happen, there is no CPS on the line and all calls are carried via BT. If the callback does not happen, the CPS is still active. To cancel charge advice on future calls, pick up the handset, dial #411# and hang up. By the way, you can ensure calls are diverted to BT if CPS is active by dialling the prefix 1280 just before the number you wish to dial - e.g. 12800207....

Has someone told BT or CPW to cancel the CPS service?

Otherwise, BT's charge advice system as suggested will test for the presence of a CPS provider.. don't worry if it reports a 'charge' for a free call - just the fact that it works will mean that call went over BTs network.

Thanks for the replies and for the tip regarding using the BT Charge Advice service.
  • In my case they cancelled my CPS with TalkTalk (also previously with Onetel without my permission,So I told them to put it back as it was as I get free anytime calls to TalkTalk customers, that I want to hang on to.
  • I've had a similar problem, signed back over my calls to BT on the 6th Feb with the free evening and weekend calls from Tiscali (was paying line rental to BT)

however BT have no record of my request even though I've got a confirmation email and Tiscali still think we are with them.

Am on hold to BT while someone sorts it out now....

    Will update as and when

My relative received letters from both BT and OneTel(TalkTalk?) today. The BT letter advised switchover will occur next week. The 'Sorry you are leaving' letter from OneTel also confirms the contract will end on the same date quoted by BT.

It will be just over 2 weeks between registering for bt option 2 and CPS expected to be removed

As BT sometimes have their own way of working, do days in Woking have 24 hours like everywhere else ... (sorry, couldn't resist :p ).
