I suffered that cold over the weekend - hence the medicinal hot toddy. The think with the smoking, now I don't drink I don't have the constant need for a cigarette, you know the ones, you don't even know you are smoking.
So here I am day 5 AF desperately trying to catch up with mollypolly, but a little phased with the thoughts of Xmas, but I guess looking forward isn't always a good idea, set yourself up for failure. Not sure if I will or won't abstain, going to be a hard Xmas for us anyway.DC.

Hi all-hope you are all OK. DC- I got myself really wound up last christmas dreading all the temptations, but I just kept my head down and actually waking up on boxing day and new years day without a hangover was such a relief, and because drink was finally out of the equation these days were just like any other AF day and I enjoyed the holidays and the kids so much more as I had more energy. There were no drunken rows, didn't fall out with anyone, no biting peoples heads off because hungover and irritable, much more relaxing for everyone really, so there are so many positive sides to having a sober xmas. Don't dread it- it could turn out to be the best one yet!!!!0

Hi Molly, Thanks.
Yes - 6 months have disappeared rather quickly - only wish I had stuck with it the first time!!
I thinks its now beginning to sink in how much Mrs BHB and I have been spending on the darn stuff!
Mrs BHB has been having tummy trouble for the last couple of weeks and I think is now in a better position to give it a go too. I feel this week is the week!
I have to admit that I haven't had a day without any alcohol since the last time I was on here, though some days it has only been a single bottle of beer.:o
Keep those positive vibes coming and who knows maybe I can crack it this time.
It IS frightening  knowing that when you stop you can NEVER have another drink though - I think that is my mental block. If I could be happy with that idea I think I could crack it.

I must admit that thought haunts me too...especially with the party season coming, ...but I am still just taking one day at a time..
Small steps..as Bismarck says.
Good luck and think how much you will NOT spend on alcohol if you do both give up.

Hi all, can't believe another week has gone by since I last posted!:o time is just flying atm, I have taken on another job at work and am busy most days now so don't get much time to come on here:rolleyes:
Just read through the posts and picking up loads of positive vibes
Molly Congratulations on your 6 months!
I haven't been an:A over the past weekend but am still managing not to drink during the week although I have to say that the lure of alcohol is very strong, as WB says I really don't know what the attraction of it is (well - addiction probably:rotfl: ) but you all know what I mean I am sure!
OH and I have started a diet this week, we both need to lose some weight and have set Christmas as our goal, I want to lose a stone and OH around 2 I think although his goal is more to feel comfortable in himself again. To this end we have decided to try only drinking when we go out and not to have any at home - we will see how we go but I am certain if we can stick to it we will lose weight- as soon as ever I drink my good dieting intentions go out of the window and in come the chips, dips and takeaway suppers:o
Hope everyone is ok and I am going to try and check in more regularly to keep on track!:beer:0 -

Hi Polaroid and BHB (don't leave it so long next time!!!- you know we all worry!!!), and everyone else.
Polaroid- never feel ashamed, you are trying to tackle this and that is the important thing-you are not ignoring the difficulties you have with alcohol, you are trying hard and making a huge effort to change, you've admitted you are not happy with your drinking- don't get despondant, it takes a lot of guts to say hands up I think I've got a problem here, but you are tackling it head on and thats a huge acheivement even if you do have a few blips on the way. Just remember you are a human, alcohol is an addictive poison that creeps up on people when they are at their most vulnerable, and can control and shape your whole life and the happiness of those around you, and it is so powerful- keep at it, even if it just feels you are making tiny inroads, you are going in the right direction and that can only be a good thing.
Hope everyone is OK tonight-Shoppy can I join the diet club? Shifting the last stone would be the icing on the cake this year- oh, except the smoking.......0
