You havent paid enough, but not to worry?

I recently rang up to find out how much I have left to pay on my water arrears. Whilst I was on the phone the lady mentioned that my payments of £39 pm for current use werent enough to cover my last bill, but that the money doesnt need to go up, and I dont need to do anything. Surely thats wrong?

Whilst I'm here, where on earth would my meter be, been here 14 months and never found it lol.

Ask a neighbour, and certainly between you and the road.
Or look for where the water enters the house (called rising main), trace it from there.

  • Depending on when your house was built if it is about 20 years old or should I say when Thatcher was in power you will have a water meter if it is older then you are out of luck you will receive a water bill usually Gestamated. But if you are unlucky like us you will have 2 water meters one with a higher reading than the other. One is in the electric & gas Cupboard so we can read it, the other is on the path outside so the water company can read it. they should read the same but they don't. we have been told if you are having difficulty there is a fund somewhere but you will only receive help from the fund if you havn't paid anything on your bill at all I hope you get it. We are being ripped off for £280 the meter reader only gives the higher reading. We pay £40 per month so if I were you I would'nt worry to much about where your meter is By the way our water company is United Utilities and I think we are paying the water bill for the whole street.Tony
