The one I have is the Morphy Richards 6.5L thing. It cost only 20 quid from Robert Dyas on offer, I'd check whether it still is. bits can be dishwashed ;)

This is waaaay plenty for the four of us. I can do a large whole chicken in it!!

You can leave it on whilst you're out. It's a little disconcerting the first time you do it, but you'll get used to it

    Hi mrsbez,

The size depends very much on how many are in your family and what their appetites are like.

I have a 3.5 litre slow cooker that suited us when we first got it, but it we are outgrowing now that we have three children. It's fine for sauces and soups but not big enough to do casseroles with meat, potatoes and veg in.

I've been thinking of getting a bigger one and liked the look of this one in argos.

We have a long thread that should help you:

I'll merge your thread with that one later as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Yes i've just looked and it seems perfect, and not too pricey either.
  • Hi MSE's,
What exactly is a slow cooker & why is this more money saving than a regular saucepan or the like?
Where is the best place to purchase one (I live in London)? Can you please reccommend a good one that isn't too expensive?

    Slow Cooker.

Personally I have a small 3.5 litre slow cooker and that is plenty big enough for three of us.

The idea of a slow cooker is you put all your ingredients in in the morning and its cooked when you get home.

Have a look through THE SLOW COOKER COLLECTION for a few ideas.

  • Mine is the same brand as Rikki's, only it's the 6.5 litre version. This is good because it will cook a whole chicken, but bad because I cook far to much and end up eating it rather than freezing for next time.

    I bought mine from Argos.

I has 4 settings - off, low, med & high. The ecomony comes in that it uses about a light bulb's worth of electricity over the course of a day, rather than putting your oven on.

    I'd thoroughly recommend a slow cooker - I'm only a recent convert :D

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

  • Hey all,

I'm looking to replace my slowcooker. I bought an old Tower brown stoneware one second hand and loved it, but I've passed it to my Grandma (she's just had an op for bowel cancer, and shouldn't spend alot of time in the kitchen, we reckon it'll stop my Granda gassing them or burning the house down!)

Anyway... I need one that can cook for 1/2 with leftovers for the freezer. I think the chrome ones look pretty, but I'm not that fussed.

    Anyone got any recommendations?

    Many thanks in advance!

  • Sorry all.

I reckon this will be too big for little me, but in the course of searching related to my first post... Tesco have the MR 6.5l for £23.97 - I assume this is a good price?
